My closet in the new house will be more than just a storage space. When we were working with the architect on the floor plan I told him I wanted a space that was large enough to house a desk/work station and a stackable washer and dryer. So my closet will multifunction as my home office and laundry room (we also have a small laundry room on the first floor, but I imagine that is what the kids will use and where I’ll wash bulky items). After taking inventory of my wardrobe, shoes and accessories and thinking about how I wanted this space to function, I drew up a shelving plan and seeing this come to life has been so exciting! My design plan for this space is distinctly feminine, and I’m not sorry! No boys allowed! 😉
(chandelier, leopard rug, ghost chair, mirror)
I’m going blush pink – same color as the exterior of the house – for the walls, shelving, trim, ceiling, basically the entire room save the floor will be State Street Pink! And I can not wait to see this space painted! I’m going to do the entire space in a semi gloss finish (even the walls and ceiling) because closets can get dusty, and semigloss is the easiest to wipe/dust clean. This is also much less labor for the painter, being able to spray this entire space at one time. Plus with one small window in this space I think the semi gloss finish will look amazing on the ceiling!
(sorry for the poor quality phone pics)
I had the desk built based on the 48″ round mirror I currently have hanging in my office. I love the large size and simplicity of that round mirror with just a hint of gold around the edge. And the ghost chair that is currently in our guest bedroom will work perfectly in here. I don’t want something too bulky, and I love that when it’s not being used it will basically just disappear into the shelving.
Then I plan to bring in the small dresser I made over and currently use as a buffet in our dining room. I think this grey will look so chic paired with blush pink, and it’s the perfect size to float in the middle of the space as an island. And I’ll likely keep the top of it fairly cleared off so that it can also function as a folding table. I have a little DIY idea brewing in my mind for the back of this piece. Stay tuned…..
When we were working on the electrical plan I knew I wanted a motorized roller shade for the closet window. I just ordered a few swatches from The Shade Store, and right now the floral is my top pick. But we’ll see what I think when the samples arrive. Which is your favorite?
Those of you who have been following along for a while won’t be surprised to hear I considered painting this space red. However, even with a window in here, I don’t think there’s enough natural light to make that work. And since this will be a room I’ll be spending time working in, I don’t want it to feel like I’m working in a cave. Blush pink will be more pleasant to work in I think. And y’all know half my actual wardrobe is red so there will be plenty of my first color love in here. 😉
I will probably not purchase the stackable washer and dryer right away. I haven’t had a ton of time to research them and shop around. But I did see this and I can’t lie, the color has kind of sold me. I mean, how good is this champagne color?! It’s totally smart to buy an appliance solely based on color right? 😉 Do you have any stackable washer/dryer recs?
Also, in case you’re wondering what that white wire is in the middle of the side wall up above, I’m planning on doing a built-in ironing board there on the wall. So that wire will be an outlet where I can plug in the iron. This is the ironing board unit I bought.
Ok, switching gears just a bit since we’re talking closets today, did any of you do any Nordstrom Anniversary Sale shopping over the weekend? I have to say I was a little bummed that by the time I had time to sit down after going through everything and making my list most of what I wanted was already sold out! And the sale isn’t even open to the public yet, just cardholders. Hopefully things are restocked.
I did manage to grab these:
Louise et Cie is probably my favorite shoe maker, most comfortable heels ever! And I couldn’t resist these zebra calf hairs!
These leopard skinnies also made it into my cart because animal print forever. 😉
And I also grabbed this blush pink ribbed sweater……..Clearly I dress the way I decorate. 😉
Did you find any deals? Does your wardrobe look a lot like your house style too? When I’m working wit clients that are struggling to figure out their style I always tell them to take a good look at what and how they dress. What you wear says a lot about what feels good and comfortable to you.
Ok, last but not least, while we’re talking about shopping deals, do I need an instant pot? I’ve been thinking about getting one. I have a friend that RAVES about hers, and so many of the food bloggers I follow share recipes for them. Anyhow, I was planning on waiting until we move to maybe get one, but the 6 quart is currently $55.99 as a Prime Day deal! Should I grab one?! They’re usually over $100!
I can hardly wait to see your big reveal! I would love to move my washer/dryer to the master bath, but my house is built on a concrete slab. Sigh! The stacked washer/dryer looks nice and using less floor space is always a plus. The sub-flooring needs to be reinforced to prevent movement of the washer. There will be lint from the dryer too.
I think you will love the semi-gloss paint in your closet. I used a satin finish in my master bath walls and ceiling last summer. The ceiling has a stippled drywall finish and the SW Ceiling Bright White satin paint looks pearlized and reflects light beautifully. I love it so much, and am now in the process of changing the flat finish to satin throughout my house.
