Kiawah Island for the Weekend

This past weekend we took a little trip to Kiawah Island. It’s only about a 45-minute drive for us, so it was a kind of a staycation. But I think it’s fun to play tourist in your own backyard, and the change of scenery and family time was the perfect way to close out our summer break. School starts in 9 days!

Kiawah Island is really special to our family. My husband, who’s from Kentucky, grew up vacationing here as a kid. And for years before we moved to the area, we would come for at least a week every summer. Crazy how time flies!

Since we moved to Charleston, we’ve really only done day trips to Kiawah. So it was a real treat to spend a long weekend hitting up some of our favorite spots. We stayed at the Andell Inn, which is conveniently located in the Freshfields Village, where you can walk to restaurants and shops. It was our first time staying there. Did you know the Andell is a Marriott hotel? (*So you can use points for your stay!)

Thankfully the weather was kind to us, which is almost unheard of in August. We spent the majority of our time bike riding and enjoying the pool.

We had a delicious dinner at Hege’s , and also really enjoyed checking out 48 Wine Bar & Kitchen.

And of course we frequented Ben & Jerry’s!

It was like being at summer camp. 😉 The girls bunked together and the boys bunked in the other room. We even got matching sweatshirts.

On our last day, the hubs and I got massages at Urban Nirvana while the kids did some shopping.

All in all we had a great time! Kiawah Island has been the backdrop for so many of our treasured family vacations, and this short stay was so special!

I headed back home with a full heart, and I can’t believe in 9 days my boy will start his senior year of high school.
