Outdoor Kitchen Patio Progress – Help Me Decide – Checkered Floor Options

One of my 2023 home project goals is to finish our outdoor kitchen patio area. It’s been a work in progress for well over a year.

I painted the cabinets last summer.

And then I decided to paint the light blue ceiling beams white. But the humidity last summer started to get the best of me, and I had to abandon the project before I had the chance to finish.

Thankfully, earlier this week I FINALLY FINISHED!

And now that I’ve finally knocked that off my to-do list, I’m ready to tackle the floor! I’m dreaming of checkers!

I’m planning to paint the concrete, and I’m trying to decide between terra cotta and grey.

  • I like the gray but the terra cotta looks more like you. Thanks for always keeping me inspired!

  • i like the gray! YOu could still do terracotta accents to get that earthy, rich fix. It looks great! (And this is showing up as all caps but my caps lock isn’t on…promise i’m not screaming at you!)

  • I vote for the terra cotta! See how it brings out the color on the gate and it’s hinges. It looks like it was the plan all along. Your famil;y could have fun painting the terra cotta pots I see siting there.

  • The gray and white is calming to me, but the Terra Cotta is a playful color.  It reminds me of the Arizona Southwest.  With such a fun pattern on the concrete, terra cotta will really stand out! Nice work on the ceiling beams. You’ve got me looking at my porch beams now. Hadn’t even considered painting them. Cool! (also, I can’t get the all-caps to turn off. Promise I’m not shouting. 🙂

  • I like the terra COTTA . aS SOMEONE ELSE MENTIONED, IT RELATES TO THE HINGES ON THE DOOR AND i THINK IT ADDS A LIVELINESS TO THE AREA THAT WILL MAKE IT VERY INVITING.

  • Both look good! The gray is safe and classic, but the Terra Cotta is fun. My vote is the Terra Cota.

  • I like the grey – oddly because normally there is never enough color to asuage me

  • Terra cotta is not a color I use. But I think it would look great and blend in with the color on the posts.

  • I like the Terra Cotta -it brightens the space and pops the other neutrals i see in your picture

  • My vote is on the grey checkered pattern and as others suggested, Terra cotta as accents.

  • Ithink you should both. Eliminate the white and use the grey and terra cotta!!!

  • Since the space is narrow and shaded I think the grey would look good, but if you plan on having the terra cotta pots “forever” as part of your decorating colors that would look good also. the bright sunshine seems to go well with the terra cotta.

  • […] still planning to add a checkerboard pattern to this concrete patio floor, but I can’t believe the difference just this solid white paint has made! The whole space […]

  • I was thinking white might get dirty QUICKLY ESPECIALLY it being an outdoor area. And I love both colors
