Dear Ikat, Olive You

Thanks to Olive Leaf Stencils I completed my very first stenciling project!  The dining room stencil wall is done, and I’m in love with the results.  I also need to give a shout out to the Centsational Girl for her round-up post of stenciling projects/tips that totally helped this first-timer!

You may remember from my “list” that I was originally planning on stenciling the ceiling in the dining room.  Well, after a couple of unsuccessful attempts at trying to stick the stencil to the ceiling I decided to jump ship and go a different route.   The stencil is quite large which is great; but because of it’s size and gravity working against me, I just wasn’t able to get it to stick.  I used Elmer’s spray adhesive (very light application) as well as Frog tape, but by the time I’d get one end up the glue was too dry to stick on the other end.
See what I mean.  I’m sure a stenciling expert would have had no problem at all, but for a novice like myself I just couldn’t make it happen.  No worries though because I’m so happy with the end result that I’m glad my original plan didn’t work out!  Don’t you just love when a quick change of plans ends up being a million times better than the original?!
I stenciled just one wall, and painted the ceiling a solid color.  Dear Ikat, Olive you (thanks Olive Leaf Stencils for making my dining room beautiful)!
In case you don’t remember, here’s what my dining room looked like before.
Here’s what it looks like after I stenciled the wall, painted the ceiling, and made a few other tweeks that I’ll tell you all about very soon!
There’s me in my UK Blue!!!  Go Cats 🙂

And then I set the table for dinner.

I’m really glad my original plan to stencil the ceiling was foiled 🙂  My new Ikat wall makes me oh so happy!  I’ll be back with a tutorial (which will be more like a “my first experience” story) tomorrow.  I’ll also give you the deets on how I painted the ceiling.  I’ll be sure to include the colors I used as well.  I just had to show you the afters before I get all technical on you 🙂  I’ve gotta run now; Thursday night is TV night for me!  Any guesses what my favorite shows are?    Better yet, what are your favorite shows?
Oh, and I was not paid or otherwise sponsored to use this stencil.  I just happened to find it on Etsy one day and fell head over heels in love.  Although, the shop owner did send me a free stencil in addition to the one I bought!
It’s her other Ikat design; she must’ve known how much I’ve been crushing on Ikat lately.  I see more stenciling in my future 🙂

  • Seriously, this is one of my favorite dinning rooms. This stencil design is just my style but I can't decide what I like more, your stencil or your new vignette. That fabric/chalkboard piece brings the black around the room and looks marvelous.
