Look What I Found!

Ok, so you know (if you read my list) that part of the plan for the year is to paint & stencil the dining room ceiling.  You also know that I tested my color idea and pattern on a large canvas to make sure I liked the look before putting a semi-permanent kink in my neck 🙂  For those that just recently jumped on board this crazy train, I need to let you know these three things (because everyone else here already knows):  1. I’m a little crazy (I fly my freak flag quite high).   2. I’m always changing things in my home because I’m always changing my mind.  3. I don’t believe in the idea of “finishing a room” because for me it’s never finished.  This enables me to take my time, enjoy the process, and laugh about the never-ending mishaps 🙂

That being said, you’ll never believe what I found on Etsy!  Once again, I have to say that I’m soooo glad that I did my little paint test because I discovered that I love that stencil but not for the dining room ceiling.  I realized after seeing it in my chosen colors that the scale of the pattern was a little too small.  I started searching for a larger pattern.  I googled.  I blog stalked.  Then I checked to see if Etsy had anything to offer.  Oh man, did they ever.  I just bought this.

It’s an Ikat stencil from Olive Leaf Stencils.  I’m in love, and I can’t wait to get my paint roller on it 🙂

I wish I could by this bedroom!  Is this not gorgeous?!

That stencil literally had me at hello.  I’m still planning to paint the base color Martha Stewart’s Macadamia that I had color matched to Behr.  Now, I’m thinking I might do the stencil in black or maybe a dark charcoal.  Thoughts?  It’s still going on the ceiling in the dining room, of course.  I love this stencil so much though, I may use it in the kid’s/guest bath which is also on the list.  This way I can really get my money’s worth 🙂  We’ll see.  I’ll be sure to let you know how I like working with this stencil.  Check out some of her other designs.

That nautical chain has some serious wow-ness!

This mod pattern is really fun!  I think it would be great in a kid’s space.

And, if you’re like me and you’re a little scared of putting up wall paper, how great is this?!

I could literally list every one of her stencils here.  They are all really great designs.  I found them to be really different than what’s being offered by some of the larger stencil companies.  Like this for example.

The jellyfish are really fun and whimsical.

Anyhow, I’m not being paid to say all this.  I just wanted to share my recent find with you all.  I can’t wait to get a kink in my neck now 🙂  I’ve been crushing on the Ikat patterns I’ve seen in my glossies and throughout blogland for quite awhile now.

So, have you made any great discoveries this week?  Share with the class.  It’s more fun that way!

  • Carmel! I am just loving your house!! 🙂 I am going to let you be the guinea pig on the wall stencil- I've been wanting to do that in our powder bath. I will watch and learn!
Your pictures of your kids are fantastic- I love those kinds of photo sessions. Just precious.
And your centerpiece of paperwhites has me with some serious envy….I wonder if it's too late for me to find some? I have a lot of those same accessories- the tray and the luminaries that you have in your valentine display. great stuff!

  • I just stumbled onto your blog. It's really great. I took your house tour. I have a question in your kitchen I see you have to bar stools at your peninsula but no overhang. How does that work? Is it ok to sit at or is it uncomfortable? thanks

  • Oooo, yes, me like! I love these new wall stencils. They are a great alternative to wallpaper. I've thought about doing an accent wall in our bedroom with one. Can't wait to see your ceiling! I'm sure it will be amazing! xo

  • Very pretty!! I can't wait to see what it looks like when you are done! I totally get the changing my mind thing! I am repainting my bedroom today after just painting it two months ago! 🙂 I think I am flying the same flag with ya. 🙂 Have fun!

  • Thanks for all the encouraging comments everyone! I'm looking forward to getting started as soon as my stencil arrives!

Rivka – The barstools in kitchen are mainly there for the kiddos. They do homework, crafts, and eat there all the time. For adults it is not the most comfortable place to eat, but it's a great spot for drinking a cup of coffee. The rectangle shape is probably the best fit in this case where we don't have an overhang. Hope this helps! Thanks for stopping by!

  • Hi! I'm so happy that other people are into Ikat! It's one of my favorite styles among textiles, and I'm so glad you like my Ikat stencil enough to write about it. Your house looks beautiful. I can't wait to see more of your design/decor ideas!
