Yo Ho, Yo Ho

A pirate’s life for me!  I had that song in my head for days when I brought home my latest treasure.  You’ll soon see why.  But first, the back story, because you know I’m super wordy like that; and well, let’s face it, you know you want the juicy deets almost as much as you want to see the pictures.  Or, maybe you can just humor me, mmmkay.

Do you remember when I turned this

Focus in on the coffee table; I was still too lazy to crop the photo 🙂

into this

because I was in love with this table from Arhaus, but I wasn’t a fan of the price tag?!

It’s still on sale for $1049  – haha – that’s the SALE price!   No offense Arhaus because you know I love you!

Well, I mentioned that my faux copper top paint job was a pretty good alternative for a more attractive price, but that the wood grain still showed through sometimes depending on how the light hit the surface.  After months of living with this “copper” table that I created, I still wanted the real thing.  I wanted real metal.  So I kept searching online for affordable alternatives because I could use the coffee table we had in here down in the basement.  Then one day I found this.

I was all set to buy this table (using the money I’d earned from consigning our unwanted/ not fitting anymore clothes and adding some to that), until I found a treasure at one of my favorite shops in Lex.  See I purchased a dresser for my dining room (more on that later) from Another Man’s Treasure, but the dresser wouldn’t fit in my van (yes, I have a minivan – don’t judge – it comes in handy A LOT) with the kids seats.  So, I had to go back to the store without the kids to pick up the dresser.

A few days later, I grabbed an iced coffee (I’m addicted to MickeyD’s), and then popped in the store with plans to bring home the dresser that I bought.  Of course, since the kids were home with the hubs I had to take my time and walk around the store, right?!  Well, this store is ginormous (think the size of Home Depot)!  I was enjoying my coffee and leisurely perusing the store.  I saw this gold glimmer in the distance and I started walking faster.  I found a treasure!  I also picked up a chair that was screaming my name for the entry foyer (I’ll share that soon too).  I couldn’t fit everything in the van.  So I had to leave the dresser and bring home my new treasure first.  The hubs was like, uh, I thought you said you bought a dresser?  ðŸ˜‰

Here’s my latest treasure which was $175!!!

Which means that I only had to add $5 to the consignment money we earned!  How much do you want to clean out your closets and consign your unwanted clothes now?!?!  For those that know about our $100 rule (can’t buy anything over $100 unless you get the other’s approval) I decided that since I only “technically” spent $5 on this chest that I wasn’t breaking any rules 😉

I love this treasure chest!  It’s covered on all sides with beautiful brass.  This old chest is a million times better than the new table I was going to buy.  I’m planning to leave it just the way it is, scratches and all!  I just adore this piece!  It has two drawers (that are dovetailed) which are holding throw blankets and my glossies.  Do you hear that song playing in the background?  Yo ho, yo ho, an antique treasure hunter’s life for me 🙂

I already had all of the accessories I placed on top.  I’m a big fan of mixed metals so I love the way the silver vase looks on top of the brass.  I added a fake orchid in the vase because I’ve had the hardest time trying to grow the real thing.  I usually do really well with house plants but orchids are giving me lots of trouble lately?!  Anywho, the fake one suits me just fine.

Have you found any treasures lately?  Are you bananas for old chests like I am?

  • Now THAT is some good brass! And halleleuia to mixed metals!!!
I can't believe you scored that for $5! (and then some, but just $5 out of pocket!!) I'm excited for you.

  • I love your blog and do no comment enough but I read this past post……and I have fallen in LOVE with this chest. So much that I was googling and searching to see if I could find a similar chest used or affordable. I thought you may enjoy seeing how much similar chests are selling for on ebay. I do believe your $5.00 (out of pocket) was well worth it. I love your style. Keep up the great work! XOXO!
