Back when I cleaned up one small section in our garage I found some treasure! Do you ever stash put things away in your garage and then completely forget all about them? Ok, well maybe it’s just me then. I am an out-of-sight-out-of-mind kind of girl. So very often “putting things away” ends up in me completely forgetting all about said item. Such is the case with the extra glass crystals that came with my Pottery Barn Celeste Chandy that I purchased last year for the eat-in area of my kitchen.

Finding the extra glass crystals was such a bonus to cleaning out the garage! I wanted to use them somewhere. I decided to play around with the dining room light fixture. First I wanted to change it from its oil-rubbed bronze look to a black wrought iron, so that it would flow a little better with the chandy pictured above in my kitchen. I lightly sanded and applied some black acrylic craft paint with a sponge brush.
I didn’t take the fixture down to paint (because I’m lazy). I painted really lightly allowing some of the oil rubbed finish to peek through in areas.
Then I used some jute twine (that I had on hand from the Hob Lob) to add my found treasure.
And here’s how it looked before.

This was also before I stenciled the wall. |
I really love this new look. It’s just the right amount of bling. It still feels casual but now totally elegant ( to me anyway). The best part is this project cost me zero dollars and about 10 minutes of my time! Woo to the Hoo! Cleaning out the old garage never felt so good! So, have you found any treasure while you’ve been cleaning? Are a chronic stasher like I am? It’s ok to admit it – they say it’s the first step to recovery. 😉 I’ll say it with you, “Hi I’m Carmel; and I stash stuff in a supposed effort to de-clutter and then forget all about the stuff I’ve stashed.”
