Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead

Do you remember when I blogged about the sconces that are in my entry foyer?

I liked them but wanted to update them.  I like the idea of keeping at least one thing that is original to a house.  While we may not live in an old, historic home this house still has a story (even if it is in its twenties).  I certainly had some stories to tell when I was a young twenty-something.  😉
I’m one of those people that actually likes brass, although I did think about spray painting them.  After thinking about it and blogging about thinking about it, I decided not to spray paint the brass and instead had a little fun with the candle sleeves.
I sprayed them in gloss white then used some black vinyl cut into strips to add stripes.
I wasn’t sure I was loving this new look.  I asked the hubs for his thoughts.  He said, “Looks likes the witches legs hanging out from under the house in the Wizard of Oz.”  HA!  Gotta love a man’s point of view.  Once he said that I couldn’t stop seeing them that same way.  I think the red walls (which remind me of the ruby slippers) with the stripes just made me sing  – Ding dong the witch is dead.  🙂  This wasn’t exactly the impression I was going for in my entry foyer, so it was back to the drawing board or uh er the kitchen counter.
Using my favorite grosgrain ribbon (from JoAnn) and my trusty sidekick (my low temperature hot glue gun) I added a little greek key trim.

And now the witch is really dead.  😉  I love this little update.  They feel a little more current now and will hopefully fit in well with the rest of the plan for the entry foyer.  I’m considering a lamp shade change but haven’t decided on that just yet.  So what do you all think?  Did the black and white stripes get you singing an Oz tune too?  Have you ever given a candle sleeve a makeover?  This little project didn’t cost me one penny as I already had all of the supplies!  Now that is something to sing about!

  • That comment cracked me up! My husband says the same types of things – what a unique perspective. Haha, but then you can never look at it the same way again. Turned out great. Awesome solutions!
