Casual Fall Table

Well, we’re back from San Diego, and we had a great time! Apparently fall came to Kentucky while we were gone because I needed a sweatshirt this morning when I dropped the kiddies at school this morning. It’s my favorite time of year in the bluegrass so I’m beyond excited!

I like to have a little something special at the center of our table. Just like everything else in my home I’m constantly tweaking. Sometimes I have a simple vase or pitcher filled with fresh flowers or clippings from the yard, and other times I have a giant bowl of fruit or a hodge podge of candlesticks and hurricanes. No matter what the season though, I tend to like a very simple look for our breakfast table. The table in our kitchen is for everyday meals, and I like to keep things really casual and functional.

The weather has cooled off and it’s officially fall, so I dressed our breakfast table accordingly.

Using things I already had I threw together a little something for all those everyday meals that bring us together. Keeping the plates, napkins and silverware on the table makes it really easy for the kids to help set the table and once the plates are set there’s space to bring the serving dish to the table. We do a lot of casseroles and hearty soups during the fall season so it’s nice to have a spot reserved for the main dish without having to rearrange or move the main centerpiece from the table (because everyone wants a second helping of my baked spaghetti – and I don’t want to have to get up to serve again). Yes- I just tooted my own horn – I’m not the best cook so I take pride in the few things I do well!

There’s something about candles on a table that just feels like fall to me.

My main goal this year in regards to seasonal decorating is to make use of what I already have on hand. You can bring in the warm feeling of fall with just a few elements – branches, candles, dried wheat and pumpkins.

That runner is adorable! I haven't brought all into my house yet but I'm getting the urge for a fire in the fireplace, pinecones and acorns. Love the gold horseshoe – it is so perfect for your home!

Planning to use your idea to have plates, napkins, etc. on our kitchen table. I have my grandkids after school several days and what an easy way for them to practice setting a table. It surely will surprise their parents (lol.) Just returned from Ireland and the centerpieces at the dinner restaurants followed yours with nature accents, quite lovely. I truly enjoy your blog; very inspiring.

It looks fresh and inviting. Definitely says fall without feeling themey 🙂 And as for me, no… zero fall decorations here. I am super behind, still pretending it's summer even though my morning runs are getting pretty chilly 😉

Hmmm I'm usually not a fan of table settings, or dressing the table, but I do love the idea of having the plates and napkins readily available at the table for the kids. I think I may implement that myself. Thanks for sharing.

Your post made me long for Fall weather. Since we in FL are still enjoying very hot/humid weather in the 90's – theres no Fall scene taking place in our home. In fact Sept is my most hated month here. We actually don't feel or decorater for Fall until November. Pathetic I know, but true.
Love to read the blogs of Fall, as they remind me of my roots and how much I miss the season. Enjoy!
