Why I’m So Glad I Started This Little Blog – Part 2 of the Big Master Bathroom Debate

Last week I told you all that the hubs and I were considering making some changes in our master bathroom with the intention of expanding the master closet. I asked you all to weigh in with your opinions on what’s more important in a master suite – a large bath tub or a large closet. Your thoughts and opinions were all so great! I really want to thank you for taking the time to leave such thoughtful and insightful comments. Seriously- there’s no doubt, you all are the best readers ever!

So you want to know what we’ve decided?

We’ve decided to leave the bathroom, tub and closet as is for now.

This reader’s suggestion is the one we liked the most.

Just had another thought – clawfoot tub reoriented 90 degrees, add more wood flooring to match the rest of the room, then add a big beautiful armoire on the outside of the closet wall – it could store clothes and a few towels w/o the cost/mess of a more involved tear down & add?

This suggestion literally made my eyes pop out of my head! It addresses all of my major concerns. I would be able to keep all that great light we get from the picture window, still have a soaking tub and get some additional storage! I think this suggestion is a win -win – win! I never would have thought of it on my own so big thanks to Mary B!

The truth about this giant jetted tub is – sometimes the jets don’t work. This tub is over 20 years old, and we’ve had a few issues. One time this tub leaked – thank goodness it’s directly over our garage so the water damage went through the ceiling of the garage rather than an internal room. It’s also really difficult to clean because of the size. And last, this tub holds so much water that we typically run out of hot water before it’s full. All of this to say, replacing it with a smaller tub would actually be really nice. I know many of you said you weren’t tub people, but I do really like a nice soak every now and again. The jets are nice but not truly a necessity.

I also love the idea of having an armoire in a bathroom. This would give me tons of extra storage. In fact, in my head I’m dreaming of a shoe armoire, which would open up so much space in our master closet. If we stored our shoes outside of the closet we’d have tons more room in our small walk-in closet for just clothing. But apart from function, I think an armoire in our bathroom would give it a great custom look without a custom price tag!

I’m so obsessed with this glass front armoire filled with shoes pictured below. Seriously, I love it so much I want to lick it – that’t totally normal right?

I’m excited to have a plan in mind, but nothing major will probably happen until next year.

Great idea!! Love the idea of adding the armoire too. When you get ready to buy your tub, there is a fabulous place here called Signature Hardware. They have a website too. Great selection and great prices. They ship, but you could come up and pick it up and we could shop!!!

What a perfect solution! Go MaryB!!! I'm over a jetted tub too. If we ever get around to updating our bath, I'm going with a soaker.

Wow, that Mary B. is one creative thinker. You did get some wonderful comments and ideas from your subscribers, but sometimes I wonder if others CAN see the "forest" because they are not surrounded by the same "trees" we are?!

Wow! I couldn't believe it when I pulled up your blog & saw that you mentioned my comment from last week – I'm such a huge fan of your blog and constantly inspired by your creative ideas (in fact, I just wrote a fall bucket list on my chalkboard today – ha!). I'm glad you liked the tub idea – it probably came to me b/c I've thought about replacing our own behemoth whirlpool with a clawfoot tub 🙂

Hey Carmel, if you are looking for a new tub you must check out Signature Hardware (if you haven't already)! They have a website but you can go hands on at their warehouse store right outside of Cinci, just a short drive for us Lexington girls 😉 We are currently building and got a great deal there on a 6 ft soaker tub. Also, by recommendation of another friend, if you see something you like and need a little better deal ask about their scratch and dent. My friend got her tub like that and so did we. Still haven't been able to find the 'scratch or dent' in ours and neither could the salesgirl when we bought it! Can't wait to see what you end up doing!
