Sometimes a mom needs a time out.
This empty, unused corner of the basement seemed like the perfect place for my time out corner.
I started with a chair. (I bought it from a local consignment shop (Street Scene) with the birthday money my mom gave me last fall. Thanks for the gift Mom!)
The chair was the inspiration for this.
I wanted my time out corner to be a comfy spot filled with things I love.
Let’s get serious, no mother can take a time out without either a cup of coffee or a glass of wine (depends on the time of day right?!). When shopping for a side table to work with this chair, I kept coming up empty handed. Everything I liked was either too tall or too wide. Then one day while hanging out at my second home (Target) I found a beautiful tray and a red basket (that’s on sale right now). The wheels immediately started turning and I found myself “building” a table with these pieces right there in the middle of the aisle. I’m sure people were walking by thinking maybe I had lost my mind while I turned this basket over and set the tray on top to make a side table, but I’m cool with being known as crazy. I literally squealed as I put both items in my cart because they made the perfect sized side table for my chair (and at a really great price too)!
That’s all you really need right? A comfy chair and a place to set down your beverage and your time out corner is all set. Everything else is just fluff. But I like fluff – don’t you?
This is where my printicular instapics landed. I used washi tape to put them up – easy and simple to change.
I fell in love with the song Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros– home is wherever I’m with you. I used a sharpie and some alphabet stencils to add this lyric to the wall.
The hanging glass planters are from West Elm and yes, I cheated and used fake succulents. Sue me. I’m a plant killer – this way no one gets hurt.
So that’s my new lounge spot – a place just for me – to read magazines and drink coffee – or talk on the phone – or blog – just a cozy little corner to take a time out – because sometimes I really need one.
Do you ever just need a time out?
Oh and how could I forget to mention the original art? It’s a Collin Phillips original. He painted it when he was 2 years old – all by himself – used a number of different sized brushes -then decided it needed a little finger painting action. I remember the day he painted it like it was yesterday. I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with his sister. It’s the last memory I have of the days when it was just me and my little man. Someday when he’s famous this painting is going to be worth millions, but it’s already one of my most prized possessions.
I must have a thing for corner spaces. My reading nook is in a corner too!
I announced the winner of the Keller Creative Designs giveaway on Facebook. The free printable is still available, and through May you can take 10% off any purchase with the code LoveOFH. Find her shop here!

Love love love that side table!! I just saw that red basket! I posted just today about a hanging basket pendant I made awhile back and when I saw that red basket at target I was like "where was that when I needed it?!". The table idea is genius! Love the chair and the artwork:) 2 years old!? I would have never guessed. Great space. I would sit in timeout there anyway:)
