What’s On My Mind This Friday

1.  I get a little cranky when I see stores setting up their back to school sections in the middle of July.  I think it’s mainly because I’m just not ready to think about starting another school year until at least the 1st of August.  My kids go back to school on August 14th so it makes total sense for the stores to already have their aisles stocked.  However that doesn’t mean I have to be happy about it right?  All that being said, I’m totally that mom that makes her kids do lots of summer reading and when we hit the middle of our summer vacation I enforce “back to school prep” time.  I make them sit down for about 20 minutes a few times a week to do some review work.  I was pretty thrilled to find these materials in the dollar spot at Target the other day.

I especially love the dry erase math cards!  I thought for any other “mean moms” out there I’d share this little tip before these prep/practice materials are gone.  Go ahead and tell your kids it’s all my fault  – I pride myself on being a “mean mom”.  ðŸ˜‰

2.  So it seems a lot of you read the book I read over our beach vacation.

Did you all know they’re making it a movie?  And that Ben Affleck is signed on to play Nick?  And that there are talks of Rosamund Pike to play Amy?  I thought the book was the most intense page turner I’ve read in a very long time.  And I’m not surprised that it’s going to be made into a movie as, for me at least, it read like a movie script.  I could literally see the movie in my head as I read the book.  I think Ben Affleck will do an amazing job with this role.  I wasn’t a fan of the ending so if they change it for the movie, and I hope they do, I won’t be sad.  Overall, while there was some bad language, I thought the book was great – creepy in a good way – if there is such a thing.  But call me crazy – I see Gwyneth Paltrow playing Amy  – and would love for her mom to play her mom in the movie.  What are your thoughts?  Am I crazy?  C’mon you now Gwyneth would nail this role.  I think it’s time to see Gwyneth do something really deep.

3.  As evidenced by number 2, I think being a casting director sounds like the coolest job ever.  Especially for movies that are based on books.  What do you think would be the coolest job?

4.  I’m loving this Banana Republic dress!

I think I may need this for our Hawaii trip!  Doesn’t this scream tropical summer vacation?!   And it’s on sale!  Me likey.

5.  Plans for the weekend include painting the kids bathroom…….if I can make up my mind on which color to paint!  Why is choosing a color for a bathroom so hard for me?!

What are your plans for the weekend?  Hope you make it a great one!

  • Soo with ya on the whole school supply thing. I really don't want to see it yet. It's been up since they put the patio furniture on sale back around the 4th of July! And we don't even start school til after Labor Day here!! I also spotted pumpkins at Michael's and it gave me the total summer buzz kill. Boo!

And yes, I did not like the ending of Gone Girl either!!!! Should make for a great movie! Gwyneth would definitely fit the bill.

Good luck painting! I'll be painting along with ya in my halls and floors. Have a great weekend!

  • I can't wait to read that book. And yes, back in the day I was that "mean mom". LOL I get the Back to School items being out, but cringe every time I walk in Hobby Lobby and see the fall and Christmas stuff already out.

  • Schools don't start here until September 3, but the back to school displays have already been out for several weeks. I hate it!

  • School starts Aug 8 here. I was actually annoyed that Target didn't have school supplies out two weeks ago. But I went the other day and was able to buy all of their stuff. I so don't want school to start!!!! I read Gone Girl about a year ago. I can see Ben Affleck in this role for sure.

  • Hi, I thought Kate Hudson would make a brilliant Amy. And Jon Hamm, since Nick was already compared to him in the book.

  • Gone Girl was awesome! I read it on the plane to Hong Kong and thought it would make a great movie also. Glad to hear the news that it is….and ur right……the ending sucked.
