35 Great Wines Under $35

Tomorrow is my 35th birthday!  (cue the confetti)
I’ve never been one to flip out about getting older because I believe that like fine wine I get better with age.  Ha!  #noonereallybelievesthat
To celebrate my special day I asked my hub to help me compile a list of 35 of our favorite wines under $35.  We’re wine lovers, and we both enjoy a good bang-for-your-buck kind of wine.  So many of our friends will text my hub before buying a bottle to ask for his recs, so I thought I’d jot them all down for y’all.  Feel free to print this list or save it on your phone.  With the holidays fast approaching I hope this list is helpful!  Maybe you’ll find a new favorite!
Here’s a little bit about our wine taste to give you an idea of what you’ll find on this list:   We are mainly red winers, but I did include one white in each price category.  We like bold wines, typically.  Our favs are malbecs, red zins and shiraz.  However, we definitely don’t discriminate against other reds.  We’re big on Australian wines because there are a number of great ones at unbelievable prices.
Oh and pay no attention to the numbers.  This list is not in any kind of ranked order.

We purposely didn’t include vintages…..as for this list we’ve found that it pretty much doesn’t matter.  Most of the wines on this list are easy to source from your local wine shop or liquor store.  Of course, I had to give some local Kentucky love to Jean Farris Winery, and you can order from them online.

Here’s to making my 35th year of life a great one!  Cheers!

I’ll be living it up with my hub this weekend  – feel free to follow along on instagram (carmel_ourfifthhouse).

  • Happy Birthday Carmel! Love the local support to Jean Farris Winery! My mom's family is from Hazard and my husband's is from Mt. Sterling (Home of Ruth Hunt Candy) and we live just north of Cincy. We like to support the local businesses in both KY and OH 🙂 Ruth Hunt and Jean Farris are 2 in KY we buy from all the time. Another good (and cheap) local wine is Valley Vineyards in Morrow, Oh (near Cincy), they sell it at Krogers in the local section, you aren't too far from me so your Kroger may carry it it runs about $12 a bottle.

  • Oooh, the New Age is terrific. If you can remember, when the weather warms back up, try it over ice with a squeeze of lime. I learned about that at WineStyles a month or 2 ago. A terrific warm weather wine cocktail.

  • Happy Birthday!!! I'm loving your leopard coat! Our latest favorite is a Dave Matthews wine, Dreaming Tree in Red Crush. It's a perfect mixture of sweet and dry. Chris hates sweet wine but actually really likes this one. It's not expensive but I can't remember exactly how much it is.

  • Cheers to Fabulous at 35!!!!!!! I will happily have a big glass of red wine tonight in your honor, my lovely friend!!! Enjoy your birthday and weekend of celebrating! Thanks for this list…I am mostly a cab girl but I'm not one to say no to any kind of wine 🙂

  • PS for the Cab lovers out there…..right now we are loving 90+ Cabernet from Alexander Valley (not to be confused with the less expensive 90+ Rosso Tuscano blend that I just picked up at the grocery store thinking I was getting a great deal.) It's under $20 and delish.

  • Cheers to this post and your b-day! I knew I liked you, we libra's know our kind!! Funny I have tried most all of those on your under $15 because like thrifting I always believe you can find a diamond in among the cheap!! Happy birthday!!

  • Happy Birthday Carmel!! I just turned the BIG 4-0 and I enjoyed every sip of it! ha ha Being a drivable distance to Napa & Sonoma we are quite spoiled and try to get up there once and a while. My all time favorite is Acacia's Pinot Noir!! Cheers!!! Every birthday is a special one. Hugs, Amy

  • You're speaking my language girl!! I'm a huge fan of Gascon's malbec so I'm stoked that's on your list! It's what we bring to dinner parties, etc. Also a fan of Coppola reds & Dreaming Tree cabernet (who knew Dave Matthews knew wine?!).
