the happiest 10 years

I honestly don’t know how it’s even possible.

One day I was pregnant, excited to be expecting a baby boy…………………..

and then I blinked…………….

and 10 years flew by.

May 20, 2014

We always celebrate birthdays.  We make a big deal, eat cake, give presents and celebrate the day our children were born.  And today, being my son’s 10th birthday, we will do just that.  We will celebrate him, and we will remember that special day 10 years ago when God blessed us with the sweetest bundle of joy.

But yesterday will always be one of my favorite days.  Surely I’ll remember his 10th birthday, but I have no doubt I’ll remember yesterday with a special kind of fondness for the rest of my life.   Yesterday was my son’s last day of being 9…………it was his last day of being a single digit………and so we celebrated.  We made a big deal.  We did all of his favorite things – we went on a family bike ride, listened to his favorite songs in the car and ate his favorite dish (sweet potato chili fries) for dinner.

Birthdays, and really firsts of any kind, are great.  We celebrate firsts all the time.  First words, first steps, first days of school…………..but lasts are really special too.  While I’m looking forward to celebrating his 10th birthday today, I’m really glad we took the time to make his last day of being 9 a day we will all remember with a smile.

These last 10 years have been the happiest years of my life!

Happy Birthday Collin!  How wonderful life is while you’re in the world!   That will always be my song to you.

  • Happy Birthday, Collin! I think that nine has been a huge year of changes. I have watched Coop change more this year than he has since probably his first year of life!

  • Happy birthday to your little guy! My oldest and only daughter just turned 18 and graduated from high school. Thank you for reminding me to celebrate the last's as well. I will definitely to remember to have a special day with her on her last day at home before she leaves to go to college (which will totally break my heart).

  • Happy Birthday, Collin! Welcome to the double digits! I love that you celebrate his last as well as his first. My son will turn 10 in August and I will definitely remember to celebrate his last day in his single digits. This should be a fun prelude to his campover (camping sleepover).
