When our contractor drew up the plans for our new screened in deck I was immediately excited about the new staircase placement (even though I was a little bummed about having to relocate our fire pit area). Moving the staircase from the back to the side meant I’d have a better set-up for arranging the furniture, as I would’t have to account for a walkway through the room.
You can see on my hideous pen-scrawled diagram above where the old staircase was and where the new staircase is now. Eliminating the need to walk through the room to get to the staircase works so much better and makes the space that much more livable. For a girl who loves arranging furniture – this was pretty much a dream come true. Since the foot print of the space is a rectangle, eliminating the need for a walkway to the stairs, meant I could use furniture to easily set up 2 different areas in this one space. I’m all about arranging furniture in a way that will allow you to get the most out of a room. Having an outdoor dining room and living room on our screened porch is pretty much a dream come true!
I’m not quite done with the living area yet, but at least the dining area is done!
I showed you the quick makeover I gave the bentwood chairs last week. As for the table, that I found at the same thrift store, I didn’t do anything except to add a few coats of Helmsman, to protect it from the elements.
On a screened porch I’m not sure the it was necessary, but I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. And it does have a really pretty shine.
We’ve been trying to enjoy as much time out there as possible before winter makes its official grand appearance. I’m hoping to get the living area done before it gets too cold – wish me luck!
Are you still enjoying your outdoor spaces? Or is it already too cold where you live?
It is lovely! Such a pretty and inviting spot! I would be having my morning coffee there every day!
