I’ve seen a number of make your own star shorts tutorials around the web, some using fabric paint & star stencils and some using bleach & star shaped sponges. With the 4th of July almost upon us I thought I’d try my hand at making some star shorts for my little girlfriend. I put my own spin on this craft skipping the star shaped stencils and sponges.
I opted to use a bleach pen and just hand draw stars all over………………and I used red shorts!
My daughter had outgrown these red jeans, so turning them into cutoffs and giving them a new summer life was a great way to get a few more months out of them. This was the easiest little diy project too! Literally, I just drew stars with the bleach pen, let them sit for about 30 minutes (the longer the bleach sits the lighter the fabric gets), and then I rinsed, washed and dried them. Like I said – EASY! I used a magazine in between the fabric, so the bleach wouldn’t bleed through to the other side. I also did the front, then rinsed and dried, then did the back. They took no time at all to make, and my girl loves them!
They were so simple to make………………I decided I needed a pair too!
The girl and I are ready for the long holiday weekend!
Happy 4th of July!
Grab a bleach pen while your grocery shopping this weekend and whip up your own star spangled patriotic shorts!
P.S. The leopard sandals the girl is wearing can found here, and the espadrilles I have on are here.
Cute!!! I'll have to think about making these next year for the 4th! I love that you match your daughter.
