what’s on my mind this friday

Hey friends and happy Friday!  I can’t say thank you enough for all of your kind and supportive comments about our sweet Jake.  Your words were such a great source of comfort and really lifted our spirits.  My whole family thanks you!

I’m so glad it’s Friday!  As usual there are lots of random things on my mind today.
1.  You need to check out this gorgeous office over at Primitive and Proper if you haven’t already!

It’s such a beautiful workspace!  I love it all!
2. I bet you’ll never guess where this distressed deer head came from.

3.  This master bedroom took my breath away this week.  The look of a fluffy white bed is just so inviting!

4.  So this announcement created major waves in the diy/decor section of the blogworld, with many people wondering what something like this means for the world of blogging in general.  When a big time blog decides to step away from blogging for awhile does it mean the tides are changing?  What are your thoughts?
5.  Last but not least, I added a fun new piece of furniture to my little girlfriend’s bedroom.

  • Great inspiration found over at Emily's and Courtney's. Love the chest you made over for your daughter's room. Regarding YHL stepping away, good for them for acknowledging their feelings and the feelings of others. Like them, so many start blogging for personal reasons, to connect with family, to share with like-minded people, etc. but then get caught up in the "making money" commercial part of the blog. And, to be honest lose themselves and the reason we all were reading in the first place. There are a few other blogs right now that I can honestly say I LOVED in the early years, but now it is all about the next "sponsored" post or full of affiliate links. It's not about them anymore. Don't get me wrong, I am all about people making money and I know blogging has allowed a lot of moms (and dads) to stay home with their children, but I don't know many who want to continually read blogs that just scream "this is how I make my living". For instance, within the past 6 months to a year so many "home" bloggers all the sudden now are "fashion" experts.

  • First, thank you for the link! I was like "hey, I know that deer head!" 🙂 Second, glad you posted John & Sherry's link. Somehow, I completely missed it during this crazy week. (I live in my own little world…) Wow. But, good for them!

    Have a great weekend.

  • Fun inspiration this Friday! As for the YHL announcement, I'm STILL thinking about it. It really got to me mostly because I couldn't believe how rude and mean some of the comments were a few days before the announcement! It was like people couldn't fathom why blogging/caring for their kids was hard. So many suggestions of "just get a nanny you can afford it" crap! Seriously!? It just totally rubbed me the wrong way! I blog and my husband works and we have 3 kids…it's not easy! But the thing is my blog NEVER comes before my family. Sure it means sometimes my readers have to wait for updates, but choosing family first should never be frowned upon. It's like people couldn't understand that adding another child to the family might change their priorities and focus for awhile. Anyways, I'll get off my soapbox and say a little prayer this is temporary for them. In the meantime I think I'll go back and start reading some of their older stuff!

  • I hate that people made YHL feel that the blog was "slipping" . We as readers to not pay to read blog it is a gift and if a blogger wants to only post once a week or everyday it should be their choice. I will miss them so I hope they decide to come back. I love what you did in your daughter’s room. So sorry about the loss of your Jake- I fear we are not far from having to face the same with our dear Max

  • I was not subscribed to YHL, so I can't answer your question as to my feelings about them stepping away. I do agree with many of the above comments of Simply LKJ. There are several blogs from which I have unsubscribed due to the commercial content, which was not there when I first started reading those blogs. Another thing that irritates me is when a blogger does go on a much needed vacation, they feel the need to keep their subscribers entertained by substituting other blog postings for us to read. I never felt that I came to "ABC's" blog for the purpose of reading "XYZ's" blog. If I cared about that, I'd be over on their site already. Heaven forbid we should have to entertain ourselves for a week or two while "ABC" goes on vacation. Perhaps we should all try that novel idea!
