changing decorating lanes

Do you ever start out in one decorating direction……………….but find that you’re not really happy with where you’re headed…………like something just doesn’t feel or look quite right……….like it’s just not coming together the way you pictured it in your head?

decorating decisions
That happens to me from time to time, and I find that it’s easier to change lanes rather than forcing something to work.  Even if that means doing something that might seem a little odd……………like hanging a floor to ceiling silk curtain panel that you hot glued burlap fringe to on a powder room window.

I think it’s okay to try things on and see how they fit.  I mean, sometimes a dress looks fabulous on the hanger and then you take it back to the dressing room and it’s a flat out no-definitely-not-cute.  Decorating is kind of like that………..sometimes you just don’t know until you try it on………and sometimes the least likely option is the one you end up really loving the most.

I honestly never would have thought to hang a long curtain panel in a powder room…….but I really like this look in this little space!   It’s a little unexpected and the ivory silk pairs so nicely with the soft pink walls.  It feels romantic and it makes this powder room feel special.

Now maybe I can actually proceed to finishing this room.  Ha!  Like that will ever happen.  A finished room is like a garden fairy………you want to believe they’re real but they’re just a fantasy.   😉
Do you change decorating lanes from time to time too?
*details – The silk panel and curtain rod are from Bed, Bath and Beyond.  Burlap fringe was purchased at Hobby Lobby and as I said, I just hot glued it in place.  I’m using a drawer pull as a curtain hold back  that I purchased at Anthropologie.

  • I hear you on changing lanes – sometimes you just need to take the leap, and if it doesn't work, you leap again, right? I love the fringe on those drapes, and that it's totally unexpected. And I'm happy that the curtain is pulled *away* from the toilet – I have boys, can you tell? 😉

  • It looks great! I also think your ikat roman shade is beautiful – would you mind telling us your source or that, or if you are willing to sell it? Thanks!
