Hey friends! I’ve missed you all! I took a little break from blogging to enjoy spending time with my dad who was visiting from California. While I was away from the computer, and social media all together for the most part, I wasn’t on a break from house projects. Thankfully my dad loves to help with projects, and often just takes over……which is always fine by me! I’d prefer to supervise. 😉 He cleaned out and organized my garage, hung the mirror on the tile wall I just finished in the powder bathroom (thank goodness because that was sceeerey!), and put together some outdoor furniture that arrived for my next project…….our screened porch!
Yes, I realize I’ve yet to finish the powder bathroom but I have trouble staying focused on one project at a time. Plus, the majority of that project is done so it should be “finished” very, very soon. With summer coming I feel like I need to kick in to high gear to get our outdoor living space all set up to enjoy for our first full summer in Charleston.
Honestly the hardest thing to leave behind at our Lexington, Kentucky house was the screened porch we had built. We lived on that porch. During the warmer months we were rarely inside the house at all.
Take a full tour of the screened porch at our old house here.
I was happy to move into a home here with a similar sized screened porch that was already built and ready to use and enjoy from day one. This porch has a smaller footprint than the one at our last home, but it does have a pitched roof which makes it feel really open and airy.
While our screened porch in Kentucky had a woodsy-modern-eclectic- adult treehouse vibe, the overall look I’m going for here is cozy-classic-charming-coastal. I want to play off the surrounding landscape yet have this space look and feel like a natural extension of our home. Here are a few of the main inspiration players fueling my desire to have this space finished up before school gets out for the summer.

I’m really loving a blue painted ceiling, or as they say in Charleston, haint blue. I’m also a big fan of using elements in outdoor spaces that don’t exactly read “outdoor”. Using indoor decor and furniture in covered outdoor rooms makes outdoor living feel more inviting and cozy.

I’m digging colorful cushions and pillows and a mix of blues with pops of pink and red.

Ultimately, I want our screened porch to say, “Come, sit and relax for awhile. Have a cocktail and unwind.” You know because rooms totally speak to people right? I’m really excited to clean this space up and give her some life!

Happy Weekend y’all! We’ve got lots going on this weekend……my boy’s tennis tournament, a birthday party and I’m going on a historic tour downtown with some girlfriends on Sunday! Can’t wait to tell you all about it!
I’ll be back tomorrow with another book review……a fun summer vacation read! Stay tuned.
We just updated our screened porch, and painted the ceiling blue. We love it! We used Atmospheric by Sherwin Williams. It’s a great color for you to check out! We plan on painting the door to the house orange, but I’m still deciding between 3 swatches. I can’t wait to see your reveal!
