It took me a good long while to decide on a paint color for the dresser in my girl’s room. Starting by painting the nightstand turned out to be the best decision. It made me realize that as much as I liked the aqua and turquoise look it just didn’t relate that well with the other elements in the room. So once I painted the bed coral I knew for sure what I wanted to do with the dresser.
Aqua with white drawers is a much better compliment to the coral bed and the other accessories in the room.

I used Tick Tock and Bauhaus Buff from Amy Howard Home’s line of chalk paints, which you can find at Ace Hardware. Tick Tock is such a fun shade of aqua, and I’m really digging the white drawer fronts with the antique brass hardware.
After two coats of paint, I used a fine grit sandpaper to give the dresser a slightly distressed look. Then I applied two coats of gloss sealer (also by Amy Howard).
I really like the way the two-toned look gives this vintage dresser a slightly more modern look.
The aqua and white is such a fun combination, especially with the coral bed! My girl’s room is thankfully inching closer to the finish line. I moved the trunk that was at the foot of my bed into her room for some much needed extra storage. It’s perfect for all her “must have” blankets and stuffed animals.
I love the view walking past her room and can’t wait to finish up the last few projects in her space before the end of the year!
Before and After
Just for fun, take a look at how powerful paint can be!
