Not So Spooky Halloween Front Door

I’m not a huge Halloween decor person, but I do like to add a little festiveness to my front door every year.  Last year Halloween in our new neighborhood was quite the event.  I have no doubt this year will be the same.  We will most likely greet hundreds of trick-or-treaters, I kid you not.  And there will be a mix of ages too, but my personal favorite are the little ones under 5 years old.   For that reason I like to keep my decor fun and cute-sy, not at all spooky.  I mean I’m not judging you if you have a coffin with a bloody hand coming out of it and some tombstones in your front yard, but I personally like to keep my decor PG and little kid friendly…..even if my own kiddos are older now.

The stick on 3d bats and spiders I bought at Target last year have lived to see another year!  These bats are really similar if you’re looking for some waterproof, easy outdoor Halloween decorations that you’ll be able to reuse again year after year.  I used command strips to stick them on this year, and they’re holding on just fine.

The broomstick is a new addition from HomeGoods this year.  It’s lighted which I love!

My camilla plant died a horrible death late this summer.  I embraced my black thumb and painted the dead plant black then stuck a little blackbird (from Michael’s) on her.   How’s that for using what you’ve got.  😉  …….a black bird in a dead tree…….that’s how the song goes right?  😉

  • Your place looks great (!), but I have begun to think about when “decorating” for halloween became a thing beyond just putting a pumpkin out? I ask because I thing about all that “stuff” that is made in China and purchased for not much money, but little by little, all this decorating for these minor holidays must add up – not just money, but where does all of america KEEP all this stuff from year to year?! Not trying to be critical, but you note that you are not really a halloween decorating person, yet you have bats and spiders etc – just really wondering about it lately as I feel odd for just putting a pumpkin on the toes and planting some mums! I

  • I love your front porch! You used simple decorations that make it pop, easy to use yearly, and fun! I really love decorating for every season, and fall is one of my favorites. The two wreaths on the double front doors stand out too, I think they make it all come together. Thank you for sharing! ps the branches you sprayed black from your plant not making it was a great idea, I think I need to add black branches to my front urn too!

  • I do ” not scary” as well. I am like you and want it to be OK for the little trick-or-treaters. I have a couple of fake pumpkins (a real one exploded one hot October and I said never again) & I have a fall wreath on the door and some cute pumpkin lights over the door. Keep it simple…

  • I don’t do scary either! I mostly just decorate for Fall with pumpkins and hay bales on the porch. My husband was just commenting that our porch looks like a pumpkin patch! 🙂 I like your idea of adding spiders and bats, especially since it’d be easy to remove them and leave the pumpkins after Halloween. Your place looks great (like always)!

  • I can’t speak to all of America, but I have a little closet for holiday decor where I keep seasonal decorations like our Christmas tree, etc. The nice thing about the bats and spiders is they really don’t take up any space at all.

  • Looking very nice and different!!! I don’t know you are a specialist or not, but from now onwards I am a fan of your work. On colorful pumpkin above spider looks like a 3D. Superb decoration and photography, last picture are absolutely gorgeous!!!
