TBR stands for To Be Read, in case you’re not familiar with the vernacular of book nerds.  😉
It’s been a good while since I’ve shared a book review here on the blog. Â I figured before sharing any reviews I’d start with a short list of what’s currently in the queue. Â Two things about me and the way I read. Â 1. I go through spurts. Â I’ll tear through stacks of books pretty voraciously. Â And then I’ll get swept up in a tv series like Gilmore Girls or Bloodline, and books/reading will take a back burner for a while. Â 2. Â Though as much as I love a good Netflix marathon, nothing really feeds my soul like reading a book.
Books feel like comfort food. Â They feel like eating grandma’s home cooking. Â Not like someone else is making grandma’s recipe. Â Like grandma herself is making the meal, in her kitchen, while you sit there watching with big eyes at the way she moves so gracefully around the kitchen……waiting with excited, hungry anticipation. Â That’s what reading is like for me. Â That being said, tv, Netflix, dare I even say movies (insert monkey covering mouth emoji), is like fast food. Â And let’s face it, as much as we all love grandma’s home cooking……sometimes fast food hits the spot.
I find that making a list, a To Be Read list, helps me to focus. Â It helps me to keep my screen watching in check. Â And it keeps me excited and motivated to get back to the soul-nourishing stuff.
My Current TBR ListÂ
- To Kill A Mockingbird  – My book-loving 7th grade son puts me to shame.  He typically reads a book a week, sometimes two.  He hasn’t read To Kill A Mockingbird yet, so I got it for his Easter basket.  I plan to reread it while he’s reading it for the first time.  I’ve found that reading a story you loved as a young person is a whole new experience as an adult.  It’s as if because you’re own life story has developed you draw new things from the already known story as you discover it all over again.  Do you ever re-read the classics from your childhood?
- After You  – I’m finally ready to dive in and find out what Jojo Moyes has in store for one of my all-time favorite fictional characters.  Me Before You left me with such a book hangover that I just couldn’t bring myself to read the sequel.  But I think I’m finally at a place where I feel ready to move forward.  I know, dramatic much?  I can’t help it.  The first book was life altering.  It really was.  I’ve heard mixed reviews, but I have to know find out for myself.
- A Monster Calls  –  I’ve already read this and will be reviewing it very soon.  I read the book in about 3 days. More on this one coming soon.
- The Zookeeper’s Wife – I saw a preview for the movie they’ve made of this book, and it looks amazing. Â I can’t wait to read this one!
- And Everyday the Road Home Gets Longer – Â I’ve already read this one. Â It’s a novella you can read in one sitting. Â I’ll share my thoughts very soon.
- The Alchemist – Over the years so many people have made reference to this story, and truth be told, I’m tired of being out of the loop. Â Curiosity has killed me.
- Three Sisters, Three Queens – If books are comfort food, historical fiction is my Thanksgiving dinner. Â And Philippa Gregory is the best homemade stuffing you’ve ever had. Â Why oh why am I comparing reading to eating…….someone stop me……this is getting weird, fast.
- A Man Called Ove – This one is by, Fredrik Backman, author of And Everyday the Road Home Gets Longer. Â I’ve heard great things about this one.
