Remember last month when I got all Marie Kondo on my kitchen and decided to give my pantry an overhaul? Well, I’m finished! And I could not be happier with my freshly organized pantry! It’s seriously ridiculous how happy it makes me!
Why It Matters
Apart from the obvious that purging and organizing just makes you feel lighter, our pantry needed a little rehaul because the door stays open quite a bit. The cluttered chaos that was starting to take over in there was starting to make me twitchy not to mention it was becoming such an embarrassment whenever we had guests over for dinner.
Dressed Her Up A Bit
Because of the fact that this door does stay open quite a bit when I’m cooking I decided to add a couple of items in here that are both aestheticly pleasing and functional.
I replaced the plain old flushmount light fixture for this pretty pendant I found at Lowe’s.
She flows really nicely with the pendant lights over the island, and she is just as pretty when she’s off as she is when lit. Even though she hangs down there’s no issue in here because we have such tall ceilings. She’s pretty small width wise, so she’s not in the way of shelf access at all. Apart from being really pretty, this fixture provides SO much more light in here which is so great because there is zero natural light in here.
The other little change I made was to add a chalkboard to the back of the door a la chalkboard paint.
*I love the Valspar brand that Lowe’s carries. No, this is not a sponsored post.
It’s definitely super functional, but it’s also a pretty little detail that makes this little part of the kitchen feel a little less utilitarian. I don’t care what anyone says…..chalkboard paint is still a favorite of mine!
*Little tip – FrogTape is the best for delivering perfect paint lines! And foam rollers are great for smooth surfaces.
I showed you the cute little vintage kids chair I bought to use a step stool in here yesterday. With such tall ceilings and me being such a shorty I wanted a stool that was easy to move around and also super study. This sweet vintage cutie fit the bill perfectly! I can even reach the very top shelf now without having to bring in a ladder! Insert praise hands!
Organizing Favorites
I shared all my pantry organization favorites last month, but now you’ll get to see them in action.
- I’m not one to put everything in an air-tight containers because that can be a labor-some system to keep up with, but I do love to keep baking essentials in them. I love that these have lids that come all the way off so you can scoop right out of them. It drives me bonkers to try and pour flour into a cup. Just me?
- Let’s have a moment for these labels. I love the black and gold. These mylar letter stickers came from Lowe’s as well.
- Give me all the metal wire storage baskets! They are perfect for corralling things but also keeping them visible. So things looks organized but nothing is hidden. Anything that keeps this momma from having to answer the “where are the insert blank” questions is a win in my book.
- And don’t even get me started on my love for a lazy susan. First off, she’s the hardest working organizational piece ever created. Perfect for corners! And I big old fat L-O-V-E a tiered lazy susan! Two levels of awesomeness- yes please.
- I also keep a bulletin board tucked away in here. This is my momma life line. It’s where I keep all important papers and the kids’ schedules.
I’m glad I tackled this project at the beginning of the year because my organization train is now starting to lose steam. Anyone else ready to move on? Maybe by the summer time I’ll feel motivated to do something about my closet?
For now……..
I think it’s time to move on from organizing all the things.
Did you tackle any organizing projects at the start of the year? It felt really good to purge and deep clean……..now I’m like, let’s just get our Netflix on. 😉

It looks fantastic Carmel. Love the chalkboard. I have one just outside my pantry (side of frig cabinet) and it is so handy for making lists/meal planning.
