For years I stayed away from “clean” color cosmetics because I had this idea in my head that “non-toxic” beauty products were only for the “natural” girls.  You know those natural beauties who wake up totally fresh-faced and walk around looking amazing with just a little chapstick and tinted moisturizer.  They’re like unicorns, but in this case they actually do exist.  😉
I’m not one of these special unicorns. Â Makeup is my friend, and I’ve always been a lipstick lover. Â I mean, I haven’t left home without mascara, bronzer and filled-in eyebrows since I was a junior in high school. Â True story. Â And well, I just assumed that a makeup junkie like myself would be hard-pressed to find a clean beauty company that could deliver the color results I was accustomed to without any toxic ingredients.
That is, until I met and fell in love with Beautycounter.
15 Minutes, 11 Products, Zero Toxic Ingredients
For those of you who have been following this diy design blog for awhile, let me tell you, this makeover I perform on my face every morning is without a doubt my most dramatic before and after.  😉  I’m not even kidding.
I’m a makeup girl, a color cosmetics junkie, and I’m sharing my makeup free face on video here because I want all of you ladies to know ~ Â YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SACRIFICE YOUR HEALTH FOR BEAUTY! Â Â Clean, color cosmetics aren’t a myth. Â You can totally be a makeup junkie and still rock a toxic free beauty routine!
Where to Start your Clean Beauty Journey
Switching to safer products can be overwhelming! Â But it doesn’t have to be!
- I recommend starting your journey by downloading the Environmental Working Group’s Healthy Living App, which will make it easy for you to check your current beauty squad for toxic offenders.
- Then once you’ve identified which products in your routine you’d like to ditch and switch to a safer option, I’d replace them as you need to replenish. Â That’s truly the most budget friendly way to detox your beauty routine.
Beautycounter bundles some of my favorites into what they call their “Flawless in Five” set for $150. Â You get 6 great products, which is a value of $199, and it makes for a great starter set!
Although, I personally prefer W3ll People’s Expressionist Mascara to Beautycounter’s.  The two mascara formulas Beautycounter makes are good, but I think the W3ll People mascara provides a little more lash drama, which I really love.
The Safer Beauty Tribe
I believe beauty should be good for you. Â And I also believe finding safe, toxic-free products should be simple and stress free, which is why I started my Safer Beauty Tribe newsletter and instagram account. Â I’m working toward a future where safer beauty is the standard not the exception ~ Â where “clean beauty” is just beauty.
Beautycounter is so much more than a cosmetics company, it’s a movement!

I can’t thank you enough for introducing me to BC. I am always excited to receive my products, and love them. I too prefer the Well People mascara after you shared that with me. Our routines are pretty identical. You just reminded me I am out of concealer 😉 And, I can’t wait to try the new peel.
