Simple Ideas for Creating a Festive Gallery Wall

The gallery wall in our living room is one of my favorite spots to decorate for the holidays! Β And by holidays I’m talking – Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas – you know, the festive trifecta that makes decorating even more fun than it normally is! Β Holiday decorating is my super bowl. Β πŸ˜‰ Β But I’m in to win it with simple ideas that don’t exhaust me. Β And as it turns out, giving this gallery wall, filled with special photographs and art pieces, a holiday makeover doesn’t require much effort or expense.

An open back frame makes switching out your art super easy. Β  This is just scrapbook paper and chipboard letters from the craft store.

Thanksgiving

Poor Thanksgiving is often the forgotten holiday when it comes to seasonal decor, as a lot of people move straight from Halloween to Christmas. Β But even if you do prefer to put your tree up before turkey day, I think a few decidedly fall or Thanksgiving-ish moments are still nice to have in your home, especially if you’re hosting the big meal. Β And adding a festive touch to a gallery wall is a simple way to do just that.

Craft stores have a variety of fall leaves from which to choose. Β The ones I used are made of burlap.

You could easily make your own out of old book pages, notebook paper or even newspaper. Β And to really add a thankful vibe, consider using a black sharpie to write down something your thankful for on each leaf.

A Christmas card layered on top of a piece of scrapbook paper brings some holiday art to this open back frame situation and finishes off this simple festive makeover really nicely. Β  Love me a leopard-plaid combo!

  • I love your style, I love your content, and I enjoy your posts, but they are impossible to see! All the ads that pop up over and between your pictures and text make it way too difficult to enjoy your amazing blog. I understand that this is how you make money, but it is just too in your face. I have been just looking at your first pic and intro in my inbox for quite awhile. I thought I’d click over to the blog to see more but was quickly reminded why I don’t do that anymore! Such a bummer!

  • Right?! The simplest ideas are always my favorite and sometimes I think they’re too “easy” to share but the fact that they’re easy to replicate is what I think makes them great. πŸ™‚

  • Hi Carolynn! I bought it years ago – like maybe 5 or 6 years ago now – from ZGallerie. It lived above the mantel in our Kentucky home – her name is White Beauty! And she’s part of our family. πŸ˜‰ Not sure exactly where she’ll go in house number 7, but she’ll have a place somewhere for sure!

  • Hi Kelly! I want to say thank you for constructively sharing your critique. It’s often tough to navigate the right path to take in terms of monetizing online content. Many bloggers go the affiliate link route or do a lot of sponsored posts. I’ve chosen to continue to create content that is centered around sharing a love for making home your happy place. Your comment led me to do a quick review of how the site is loading both on desktop and mobile. And I’ve made a couple of changes that may make things less “in your face”. There were a few pop-ups (that actually weren’t ad related) that were popping up on mobile that I have deleted for the mobile experience.

The desktop version will always be a cleaner, less ad-heavy reader experience than mobile. On mobile there are ads that will be included in blog posts. Whereas on the desktop version of the site, there are no ads within blog posts.

But there are no more annoying pop-ups covering content on mobile now, so hopefully that makes things a little simpler, creating a more enjoyable reader experience.
