I haven’t always loved decorating for Halloween, but in the last 5 years or so I’ve enjoyed playing it up around my home.  Maybe it’s the drama queen in me, but it feels fun to play with styling around this holiday.  It’s not overly serious and there’s no right or wrong way to do it.  This holiday encourages you to let your decorating freak flag fly super high, and just go for the crazy!  This year I had so much fun giving my living room a little Halloween makeover.
Enter If You Dare
I focused my efforts on the mantle and bookshelves, and I really went all in on the back, white and red color scheme to drive home an interesting but cohesive look.
The really fun thing about this Samsung Frame TVÂ (last year’s Christmas present!) is being able to change the art at whim. Â There’s a HUGE gallery of art to choose from, something to suit every style. Â This bird scene felt eerily perfect for Halloween.
I don’t actually have a lot of Halloween decor per say, maybe just one medium sized box. Â I keep things in bags so it’s hard to gage. Â But what I’ve come to find with Halloween is that less is more, and it’s really easy to use what you already have.
Dried florals spray painted black are inexpensive and easy…and bonus, you can just throw them out on November 1st.
Even just highlighting book titles that seemingly fit the theme is a simple way to bring a Halloween look to a space.
*Style tip – If you don’t have any book titles that fit your theme, don’t be afraid to create book covers and write in any title you want.
Of course I do have some real deal Halloween decorations, like Mr. Bones here.
I like to look for Halloween decorations in the costume area. Â Small witch hats and masks make for great shelfie decor. Â How fun are these skeleton hands that are actually hair clips?! Â (The letter is something I found in a vintage book years ago.)
I’ve found that Halloween decor can be stylish and fun. Â It doesn’t have to be super scary or gory.
Decorating for this holiday feels like playing dress up as an adult.  And I for one am down with playing dress up.  😉  Who’s with me?!
Last year’s Halloween look in here was much more simple, but this year I have friends coming in to town for my 40th on October 26th so I decided to get a little more festive than usual! Â October is my absolute favorite month of the year! Â It’s my birthday month and my anniversary month….the leaves change colors and it feels like God’s throwing me a birthday party!
Happy October 1st friends!
How fun, I love it.
