I truly believe that every day we have the opportunity to vote with the choices we make. And if I’m being completely honest, I actually think we effect more change outside the voting booth. Not to say that casting a vote on election day isn’t important, but every single day we vote with our dollars. So I try to be conscious of that and love supporting B Corporations as much as possible.
In case you’re not familiar, B Corporations have a slightly different structure than traditional corporations. They’re structured to consider people, planet, and profits equally. And they’re led and run by people who believe in using business as a force for good to help solve social and environmental problems by voluntarily meeting higher standards of transparency, accountability, and performance. B Corporations are leading the way in terms of responsible business.
Here are few of my favorites among them.
Beautycounter
First up, did you know Beautycounter is a B Corp? It’s one of the many reasons I decided to become a consultant. They are one of the only clean beauty brands that is structured this way, and I think that says a lot about their commitment to transparency…..to doing the right thing for both their clients and their employees. I also love that they’re continuously looking for ways to improve. Recently they’ve partnered with How2Recycle in order to improve recycling efforts.
Seventh Generation
My favorite household cleaners outside of Young Living are from Seventh Generation. And I love that you can find them everywhere from your local Whole Foods to Target. Seventh Generation is one of the only toxic-free household cleaning brands that doesn’t include the word “fragrance” on their ingredient label, opting instead to share transparently and list the essential oils used to scent their products.
Dr. Bronner’s
Dr. Bronner’s has been a favorite brand of mine for many years now. My entire family uses their bar soap (which lasts much longer than conventional bar soaps), and both of my kids love their peppermint lip balm. I keep their hand sanitizer spray in my car at all times to use as both a sanitizer and a car air freshener. *Little tip ~ You can often find Dr. Bronner’s products at Marshall’s at a discounted price.
Patagonia
I’ve long loved Patagonia. And I especially love what they’re doing to ensure their products are produced under safe, fair, legal and humane working conditions throughout the supply chain. I basically live in my Snap-T during the winter months.
TOMS
Chances are when I say TOMS you think of shoes. And I do love their shoes and their One for One program whereby with every pair purchased they give a pair of new shoes to a child in need, but did you know they make coffee too? With every TOMS Roasting Co. product you purchase, TOMS will help provide safe water to a person in need. It’s available at Whole Foods, and y’all, it is some really great coffee!
It’s the coffee I use for my DIY pumpkin coffee facial scrub and mask as well.
Sir Kensington’s
Another brand I discovered at Whole Foods a couple years back is Sir Kensington’s, but it’s popularity is catching on as I’ve noticed it at a number of local grocery stores. You can even buy it at Target now! Their Chipotle Mayo is out of this world good! I love it with french fries! And it makes for the tastiest, easiest chicken salad. Just take shredded chicken and some chopped celery and add some of this chipotle mayo. SO yum!
Noonday Collection
Last but not least is one of my favorite jewelry brands, Noonday Collection, which I mentioned in my gifts that give back post. Noonday partners with artisan businesses in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities. They develop these Artisan Businesses through fair trade, connecting them to a global market, empowering them to grow sustainably and helping them to create dignified jobs for people who need them. And the jewelry is incredible!
Consumption is part of living, but it’s so nice when it can also be a part of doing something good for people and for the planet. I’m a big fan of B Corporations, and I look forward to seeing more business adopt this structure.
