The tile has arrived at our seventh house, and the floors will be going down very soon! And I can’t wait to see it all installed! I shared this image on instagram last night and in the caption mentioned that I’m doing an all black tile shower in the master bathroom. And I think some people are scared for me. Ha! But guys, I promise it’s going to be good…….or at least I think it will be. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut and hope and pray you’re making the right call. I spent a lot of time looking at tile, a. lot. of. time. And before that a lot of time looking through magazines, books and of course, Pinterest. Black and white design has always been a love of mine. I love the stark contrast and classic feel. It’s timeless and always exciting. It never feels boring or overdone, in my opinion. And while the entire shower, floors and walls, will be matte black tile and the bathroom vanities will be all black as well, I assure you there will be plenty of white thrown in here as well.
So this matte hex tile is going down on the shower floor, and we’re doing a large scale matte black rectangular tile on the walls. With black grout. And I’m pumped to see it come to life!

Here’s a look at the inspiration………

As much as I LOVE the glossy black tile look I know that water spots will be so much more visible on a glossy finish, so I opted to go with matte black. And according to the tile salesperson I’ve been working with going with a matte finish was the right call in terms of maintenance. We’ll see……

I considered doing the floor and walls of the shower in the same tile, but ultimately decided to do the hex only on the floor. I want the shower walls to look almost seamless. If the budget wasn’t always trying to keep me from being great 😉 I would have done matte black marble walls in the shower…….but money actually is a thing. So instead I’m going with really large scale black rectangular wall tiles, brick laid with black grout. And I think this black on black look will be pretty close to seamless.
Not a shower, but the black subway tiled walls in here are absolutely stunning!
I did also almost chicken out of going with black shower walls all the way around, and I almost decided to do just the back shower wall in black tile as they did in this image below. But in our bathroom the shower is a niche. The walls aren’t continuous as they are here. And I think only doing one wall in our case would actually look like I was too scared to just go for it, rather than looking like it was an intentional design decision as it does below.
Also, I love the way the shower niche wall to wall and lighted…….wasn’t in our budget though. But we are doing a horizontal niche in the same tile as the rest of the walls, no accent tile. And I do hope we have some space for a little plant baby or two, because seriously, how cute it that?!

I really did consider black subway…… I mean, is this gorgeous or what?!
(This image is all over Pinterest, but I can’t find the source. Please let me know if you know who designed and photographed this gorgeousness!)
I also considered herringbone.
But in the end I went with my gut, and I’m excited to see this come to life! Fingers crossed it’s as good as it looks in my head. 😉
These are stunning, but we have hard water. I can’t imagine the mess we would have in no time with the hard water sport, drips and stains. I would have to pass.
