When last I shared an update on our seventh house the drywall had just been completed. Â That was the end of April and so much progress has happened since then! Â If you’ve been following my Instagram Stories you’ve been getting some sneak peeks. Â I’ve been saving all of those stories to a highlight on my profile, so if you’re curious you can always go back through them. Â Today I’m sharing a little more of where we are in the building process as of just this past weekend.
Hardwood Floors Are Down!
The hardwoods went down just this past week and now more than ever the house is really starting to look like a house. Â We went with 5 inch wide site finished white oak. Â They will be finished with a matte clear coat, no stain. Â So they will stay very light. Â I’m already loving how they look with the black doors and windows!
Molding!
Molding is also being worked on, and I’m really happy with the simple but classic style we chose. Â We’re going with clean lines, nothing too ornate.
Black Tile Master Shower Done!
The master bathroom tile work is complete, and I’m in love! Â Black showers aren’t for everyone, but I’m 100% here for this. Â It turned out better than I imagined it would, and I can not wait to see the shower door and bath fixtures installed.
I chose charcoal grout so there is a slight difference, just enough to see the pattern.
There will be a rain head flanked by two very small recessed lights, and at night it’s going to look so killer. Â When I shared my design inspiration for this shower design many readers commented that their main concern would be maintenance. Â Because I went with matte tile I don’t think water spots will be an issue.
The shower is large but the black tile makes it look even larger, and I love how it looks against the marbled floor tile.
I plan to do a whole separate post about the tile we chose and why, with all the source information in a few weeks.
Those boxes hold the cabinets which will most likely be installed this week! Â I’ve been testing paint swatches in here, and I think the winner is the top far right – a white with a slight grey undertone.
Subway Tile for the Win!
I chose plain white subway tile for all the other bathroom showers/ tub surrounds.  For two reasons – 1. It’s classic and easy to work with from a design standpoint. and  2. It’s extremely budget friendly. Taking the tile all the way up to the ceiling makes such a statement.  Had I chose a more expensive material I probably wouldn’t have been able to afford to do this.  I’ll be sharing more of how I saved in certain areas to be able to splurge in others in a blog post very soon.
The Kitchen Cabinets Are Here!
Probably the thing I’ve been anticipating the most is seeing the kitchen cabinets installed. Â I chose a custom color for the island and pantry cabinets, and I’m not going to lie, I’ve been so nervous about my color choice. Â Selecting wall colors is much less scary…..but cabinet colors……eeek…..you don’t want to make a mistake with cabinets.
I breathed a sigh of relief and also squealed with excitement when I walked in to see these! Â This blue is so incredible! Â Even better than I had imagined it would look! Â This color is from the Historic Charleston Color Palette available at Sherwin Williams, called Hurricane Blue. Â It’s a gorgeous muddy blue with just enough grey in it. Â And I love how it looks with the wood floor.
I plan to have all the shelving and molding in the pantry done in Hurricane Blue.
This is also the color I chose for the screen porch ceiling.
So that’s a run down of the where we are in the building process. Â It’s been so fun to see this come to life. Â To go from sketches and notes on paper to seeing it in real life has been so cool. Â I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this process. Â And while I’m excited to move in later this year, I’ll be a little bit sad when it’s all over. Â I can’t thank you all enough for coming along on this journey, for sharing your insights and thoughts along the way! Â It has truly helped me sort through my own thoughts and ideas to make decisions, and I’m so grateful to have this amazing community of design enthusiasts as a sounding board!
I’m so excited to see this post and see how it’s all coming together! I LOVE the blue island and the pantry!! I can’t wait to see how you decorate the rooms!! When are you thinking you will move in?
Keep the pictures coming!
