Last week, I finally tackled the gallery wall in my girl’s bedroom. My sixteen-year-old has been collecting paintings and prints for a while now knowing that she wanted a large, eclectic collection of pieces on the wall across from her bed.

This wall is quite large. So it took a little while to collect enough pieces to really fill it out nicely. There’s definitely room for her to add to this collection, but the wall already feels nice and full as it is.

The mirror has been up for a couple of years now, and I love how the reflection of the mural flows with the art.

With an eclectic collection like this, I think the best way to create a cohesive feel is to focus on balancing color. So I tend to create visual triangles with color in an effort to make sure all of the main colors that are represented are spread throughout the gallery wall.

Varying the sizes as well as the orientation of the pieces in addition to balancing color really helps to keep the eye moving. But mostly, I try not to overthink things too much, and I like to just have fun! The only thing I really think about when I’m hanging a gallery wall is spacing. I really do think keeping the spacing similar throughout makes all of the individual pieces feel more connected, making one large statement.

Because my girl wanted a collected, eclectic vibe, I used a mix of gold and black frames both new and vintage.

Some pieces were handmade by my girl, and some were painted by my mom. There’s nothing better than original art created by loved ones.

Some pieces were thrifted or purchased from local artists (like this black and white silhouette of Jo from Little Women by @CarrieDavisArt and this roller skate print by @dosbandidos). And some prints were found on Etsy (linked them all below).

I will always love the way a gallery wall infuses personality into a space!
