Teen Girl’s Room – Handpainted Wall Mural Complete!

Happy Friday friends! I finally finished painting the wall mural in my girl’s bedroom! And to say that this project took me way out of my comfort zone is such a huge understatement. An artist I am not, nor have I’ve ever done anything like this before. So I’m not even entirely sure why I thought I could pull this off. But my 13-year-old daughter dreamed up the plan and believed I could, so I went for it! She was the visionary and also my painting assistant. The end result isn’t just a room she loves, but it’s a memory of creating something together. And I’ll treasure that memory forever!

You might remember from this post that this mural was inspired by the bedroom in the movie To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. My girl fell in love with the main character’s bedroom in that movie, and for almost two years she’s been dreaming of having a hand-painted mural in her own room.

Of course, we put our own spin on it and played on the reds, corals and blush pink tones she has in her space.

I included my daughter in every design decision because I really want her to feel like this is her space, and also because she loves the creative process as much as I do. She chose the wall color all on her own – Garden Lake from the Duron Collection for Sherwin Williams – and I think she did an incredible job! Isn’t this shade of blue so good with her red, upholstered bed?!

This view from the hallway makes me all kinds of happy! Her room just feels so fun and whimsical now, and it’s so her!

I’m also a big fan of this entire color story. I color-matched this beautiful Crane & Canopy duvet cover (that was gifted to us) at Sherwin Williams in order to perfectly coordinate the coral flowers in our mural.

And it’s just a happy accident that the coral-y pink vintage lamp also happens to match almost perfectly! Love it when that happens! 🙂

This room is far from “done”. I’m still thinking about painting the chest of drawers, and I’m definitely planning to bring in a rug and some other accessories. But Rome wasn’t built in a day and all that. 😉 At the moment, we’re celebrating that this hand-painted mural is done! And both of my girls are quite happy with how this space is coming together.

And because today just so happens to be National Sleep Day, I’ve not only teamed up with Crane & Canopy but also 13 other design bloggers who are sharing a little bedroom refresh/makeover today! So be sure to check out all of their bedroom spaces too! And stay tuned on Instagram for a fun giveaway!
