Girl’s Room Before & Inspiration

It’s been a little quiet here on the blog over the past week. But I’m back today to give you a little before tour of my girl’s room. We haven’t done much in here since move in day back in October, and I wasn’t planning to tackle her room until summer break. But my artsy 13 year old has had a vision in mind since she found out we were building, so I’ve decided to move her room up on my project list!

It’s already a great bedroom that receives lots of natural light with two big windows and even a set of doors! And with white walls and a sculptural white chandelier (from the Miles Redd collection at Ballard Designs), it’s a really great blank slate for us to unleash our collective creativity.

And my girl is so excited to be apart of the design process that this is already turning into such a fun project!

She’s inherited the red upholstered bed that used to live in the guest bedroom at our sixth house.

And the rest of her room is currently comprised of pieced together furniture that we’ve had for years. While we’re definitely planning to keep the bed, there’s a possibility the desk and dresser will be swapped out for something else or maybe they’ll get painted. The furniture is still to be determined, but the white walls are definitely being painted!

In fact, you may have seen a little sneak peek over on my Instagram Stories this past weekend. My girl and I got started painting these white walls! And we went bold!

The Inspiration

My 13 year old selected the wall color by pulling inspiration from her favorite on-screen bedroom. Do any of you recognize this scene?

This is Laura Jean’s bedroom from To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and my girl has pretty much been obsessed with this room ever since she first saw it in the movie a couple years ago.

While I’m hoping her room stays more picked up than Laura Jean’s ;), I am excited to help her create a space inspired by this design. We’re hoping to recreate a similar looking mural behind her bed. Wish us luck!

I can’t wait to show you how the deep turquoise walls look! This red headboard looks incredible against that color!
