Teen Girl’s Closet Organization

If you follow me on Instagram, you may already know that I helped my girl organize her closet last week. Cleaning, purging and organizing closets is part of our back to school process around here. And with all the uncertainty around what the school year is going to look like this year, continuing on with this normal tradition felt good and cathartic. To make the process fun we busted out some paint and turned this cleaning project into a creative one! I gave my girl free reign and encouraged her to let her creative spirit run wild. The result is a closet space that is oozing with personality and is truly a representation of my sweet teenage girl. I can’t love it more! And my hope is that by giving her the freedom to do whatever she wanted in here she’ll be more apt to keep it clean. 😉

The free hand doodling she did is just so fun! She used leftover paint from the mural I painted in her bedroom, so the colors flow really nicely from bedroom to closet.

Her one request when we decided to build a house was a walk-in closet. She’s my artsy kid, so I opted for shelves on one wall to house all of her arts and crafts supplies.

My girl did pretty much everything herself, and the only thing I really contributed was painting the backs of these shelves.

She’s getting ready to start her freshman year of high school. I still can’t believe my baby is so grown! And while I have no idea what’s in store for her this year, I couldn’t be more proud of her resilience and positive attitude.

What a strange and wonderful time to be a teenager. While my momma heart has been so broken for all the teenagers going through this difficult pandemic time as I’ve been thinking about all the things these sweet kids are missing, I’ve also been encouraged and inspired by this generation’s character. High school, those precious years between age 14 and 18, are, in my opinion, the best, most magical years of childhood. They’re the years you remember for the rest of your life. They hold so many firsts. First dances, first dates, first heartbreaks…..so many lessons learned as you cross the finish line of childhood and graduate to adulthood. And while this pandemic may be robbing them of some things, I’ve realized it’s also gifting them in some ways too.

So much love to all the moms and dads, and also to all the teenagers navigating these uncertain times. We’re all in this together
