Grasscloth Wallpaper Furniture Makeover

First, hello friends! It’s been a minute….or more accurately 3 weeks since my last post! I didn’t intend to take so much time away from the blog, but behind-the-scenes projects and life have kept me pretty busy as of late. But I’ve missed you all! As much as I enjoy engaging on Instagram, this little blog is still my favorite way to connect. I’m a wordy gal ;), and I just prefer the longer more detailed format of a blog post. I guess I’m just old school in that way. Anyhow, I’m back today to share a fun furniture project that was beyond easy to execute! The idea for this grasscloth wallpaper furniture makeover popped into my head when I realized I had just the right amount of leftover Spoonflower wallpaper from my dining room project. Leftover wallpaper always makes me itchy. It’s like it calls out to me, begging me to use it for something! 🙂

Covering the drawer fronts of this dresser that I use as a sideboard could literally not have been easier! Seriously. Just watch this video and see for yourself! As luck would have it the width of the drawer fronts exactly matched the width of the wallpaper roll, so I didn’t need to do much trimming!

Because this piece was already painted, I didn’t bother with a wallpaper primer. But if this had been raw wood, I definitely would have applied primer as my first step for better overall adhesion. And also because wallpaper primer makes removal (when/if you’re ready for a change) much easier.

In this case, I went straight to the wallpaper paste and applied it with a brush to the drawer front. And then I placed the wallpaper leaving about a quarter of an inch of overage at the top and bottom, smoothed out any air bubbles, and trimmed the paper with the razor blade.

In the amount of time it would’ve taken to me make dinner, I completed this project. And I just love how it brings the pattern from the dining room to the other side of this open-concept space. I’ve always been a fan of a little pattern repeat in design.

I love the texture and dimension the addition of this striped grasscloth adds to this piece!

It’s a small change.

Before….from about a year ago when I brought in this new rug…..and before I also played a game of musical lamps. 😉

The little design details are always my favorite!

Let me know if you have any questions about this project. I think this is such a fun way to update an old piece of furniture and add a little punch of pattern to a space in an unexpected way!
