One Room Challenge Week 4: Tone on Tone Furniture Makeover

Week 4 of the One Room Challenge is here, and this office/ guest bedroom is really starting to come together! It’s always so fun to see a design vision come to life! This week I knocked out a furniture makeover. Once again using my new favorite paint for furniture (the same paint I used on my daughter’s chest of drawers makeover), I went for a tone on tone look. And I’m in love with the transformation!

I didn’t dislike this light grey against the green walls (Sherwin Williams Tradd Street Green). But with the sleeper sofa and desk in the space, I wanted this piece to visually disappear. This vintage tallboy belonged to my husband’s maternal grandparents. So it has sentimental value, but it also provides some great storage for guest room linens. However, this room is not large and while this piece fits, I wanted to give the sleeper sofa some visual breathing room.

So I decided to paint this piece the same color as the walls. I’ve always loved me a tone on tone look.

Daylight was slipping away as I finished this furniture project today, so I didn’t have time for a proper photo shoot. Instead all I have to share are a few crappy iPhone pics. But even still, I’m in love!

This shade of green is just so yummy!

Painting this tallboy the same color as the walls creates the illusion of more space in this corner, and it makes the room feel a little larger too.

I went back and forth trying to decide what finish to do. I considered a high gloss, but I ultimately chose to go with a satin finish which I think feels more masculine. And considering that this is my husband’s office, I think that was a good call. Though I do think a high gloss finish in this moody corner would have been so killer! But the satin looks luxe and velvety, and I love the way the brass pulls pop off this green!

I used a little Brasso to give these pulls a good polishing. And clearly it’s something I should have done a long time ago! Look how shiny and pretty they are…….even in this fuzzy iPhone pic!

Once again I’m beyond impressed with this Urethane Trim Enamel from Sherwin Williams. I will likely never use anything else to paint furniture ever again! It gives you such a beautifully smooth finish!

Thanks so much for following along as I “pimp this space” for my husband and our future guests. Ha! The desk arrived yesterday, and I can’t wait to share it with you all next week!

Be sure to check out how all the designers and participants are doing with their One Room Challenge spaces! I’m so inspired by everyone’s creativity!

  • Woah, woah!! I love the tone on tone and that shade of green is perfect! I actually painted our vintage dresser a beige color after putting it back together, decided to mix some paint to create a green color to paint the dresser with instead – #teamgreendressers haha 😉
