One Room Challenge Week 6: Home Office Desk Area

Hey friends, and how are you? I know the past few weeks have been heavy and hard. Week 5 of the One Room Challenge was cancelled as we all paused to stand in solidarity. Black lives absolutely matter. They matter to God. They matter to me. Last week, I personally spent a lot of time reflecting and examining my own life and actions as well as thinking about how I can do better. How do you know if you’re loving your neighbor well? That’s the question I’ve been asking myself. And I think it’s when our neighbor feels loved, honored, respected, seen, heard and celebrated. Sometimes it’s not about what we’re doing necessarily, but rather about what our inaction is allowing to happen. These are the things I’ve personally been praying on these past few weeks. I keep going back to a lesson on love I was taught years ago in a high school Bible class ~ love isn’t a noun; it’s a verb. Therefore it requires action.

Today, while we’re resuming with week 6 of the One Room Challenge, it doesn’t mean we’re going back to business as usual. But rather, moving forward in a positive new direction.

For anyone new here, welcome! I’m currently working on a multifunctional space. Our guest bedroom will also function as my husband’s home office, and today, I’m excited to share his new desk area.

I shot all of these pictures on a grey, gloomy day, and I love how moody the space looks! I’m still bananas for this shade of green ~ Tradd Street Green from the Duron Collection for Sherwin Williams.

This metal-wrapped desk is everything!!!! I’m obsessed. It’s way better in person than it is in photos. It’s the perfect combo of masculine and chic, and this 54″ size could not be a better fit for this multifunctional room.

My space planning thankfully worked just as I planned, and we can open up the sofa bed without having to the move the desk at all! Insert praise hands!

To add some contrast, I decided to use Rub ‘n Buff in Gold Leaf on the drawer hardware. Long time readers already know that I’m mildly crazy about Rub ‘n Buff and have been using it for years. It worked like a charm, and I love how the muted gold plays off the antiqued zinc metal. Mixed metals have always been a favorite of mine.

My husband selected the art for over the desk, an old, iconic photo of Michael Caine, one of his favorite actors. Since it’s his office space, I want him to feel that it represents him. I opted for a 16 x 20 photo and went with a thin, gold frame and no matte, so that the art wouldn’t overpower this spot. I want the desk to the be the star of this corner moment, but I definitely dig the way this black and white photo plays with the zebra hide!

This space is moving right along, and I’m looking forward to wrapping this project up in the next couple weeks!

Be sure to check out how all of the other ORC participants are doing this week!
