One Room Challenge Week 3: Guest Bedroom Styling Plan

Hey friends and welcome to week 3 of the One Room Challenge! As many of you already know I’m working on my husband’s home office which is also going to function as our guest bedroom. Everything was moving along quite nicely until this week. I was hoping to share the desk with you all today, but unfortunately I was notified of a shipping delay. Fingers crossed it arrives in the next couple weeks!

So instead of the desk area, today I’m sharing more about how I plan to convert the vibe of this space from home office to guest room when we’re hosting out of town family and friends.

We chose a sleeper sofa for the space because on an everyday basis we want this room to look like an office rather than a bedroom. (If you’re just now tuning in, you can check out the overall design plan here. ) However, when guests are in town, I want the vibe of the space to feel less like an office and more like a swanky hotel room.

I want the space to feel slightly coastal…..but really just a nod to Charleston is what I’m wanting to achieve. And I’m pulling inspiration from this gorgeous Ralph Lauren bedding mix…….

…..and this more casual palm print paradise as styled on H&M’s site.

I’m going for a modern traditional, casual chic vibe.

  • I love mixing in vintage finds! And this federal mirror is not only going to look great against the green walls, but it’s also going to add the right amount of traditional to the space.
  • I’m keeping the color palette pretty tight and am playing with with pattern and texture. The black and white throw pillows complement the zebra hide nicely, and I can’t wait to seem them on the camel leather sleeper sofa!
  • I’m crossing my fingers that this palm duvet set will work with the wall color. Hoping for a nice tone on tone look in here.

I’ll be styling the room both ways for the final reveal. So you’ll see it styled as my husband’s home office, but also as it will look when we’ve got guests in town.

Thank you to Linda, from Calling it Home, for organizing this fun design challenge. And thanks also to the media sponsor, Better Homes and Gardens.  Be sure to check out the updates from all of the other One Room Challenge participants!
