Oh my goodness I can’t believe it’s already week 3 of the one room challenge! Yikes, that means we’re already at the halfway point! EEEEK!
To get everyone up to speed, for the first time ever I’ve decided to join Calling It Home’s One Room Challenge, which is basically a design challenge where you makeover a space in your home in just 6 weeks. Since it usually takes me years, this is most definitely a challenge for me! I chose our guest bedroom because it’s the one room in our home where I really need the motivation. Since we moved to Charleston just over a year ago, our guest room has seen many guests. All of a sudden we’ve become very popular. 😉 So it’s time to give this room a proper makeover.
Today I’m sharing a bit more of the design plan as well as a few progress shots.
(Bed, Rug, Lamp, Pendant, Pillows, Art)
I’ve decided to add this graphic wallpaper to the headboard wall. Nothing like making a design decision like this at the eleventh hour………let’s hope it arrives soon!  Since the wall color is a neutral shade of light grey, Sherwin Williams Shoji White, I want to inject some pattern play. I think the wallpaper on the headboard wall will help to make that a focal point in the room, and I like that the graphic diamond design plays off of the diamonds on the rug.
This desk will double as a nightstand and vanity.
Since guests will be sharing a bathroom with my daughter I want them to have a private space where they can get ready. I scored this simple mirror at HomeGoods this week. The lucite chair and desk I’ve had for a few years now. I love using a ghost chair in spaces where you want the functionality of a chair but not the visual.
I also hung some simple white curtain panels from Bed, Bath and Beyond. That is my favorite place to buy ready-made curtains as they sell longer lengths. These are 95 inches long. With our tall ceilings I considered going with the 108″ length, but I eventually want to add a 5 inch crown moulding to the room (that won’t be happening during this challenge) so I opted for the 95″ length instead. I prefer the casual look of having panels drape slightly against the floor.
I’m trying to create a good mix of masculine and feminine in our guest room. I like the juxtaposition of the black, straight lined mid century chairs against the soft white, pinch pleat curtain panels.
The pillows arrived and I love the texture and pattern!
I was feeling pretty good about my progress thus far. I mean for me just nailing down a design plan is a huge feat. However realizing we’re already 3 weeks in and I still have wallpaper to install, a ceiling fan to replace and a few other small yet time consuming diy projects to complete in the space has me feeling a little uneasy. Especially since I’m still waiting on shipments.
But I’m still glad I joined in the design fun this round! Fingers crossed I have a lot more progress to share next week! If you’re interested in checking out the progress of all the other participants in this challenge head here next.
That wall paper is going to be amazing! I can’t wait to see how your room turns out!
