Hey friends! Week 7 is here, which means it’s crunch time for the One Room Challenge! Reveal day is coming next Thursday! And I’m looking forward to sharing the finished guest bedroom/home office I’ve been working on for the past couple months! I just love the motivation that this design challenge provides!

Today I’m sharing the DIY abstract art piece I just finished. I knew I wanted to hang a large abstract piece over the sofa bed. And after looking around and not finding anything I really loved within my price range, I decided to go the DIY route. And I really love how this piece turned out!

I’m so pleased with how it looks in the space! It’s exactly what I envisioned, something neutral with texture, minimalist but interesting. And it really wasn’t hard to create at all.
I used just three acrylic paint colors, black, white and umber. Painted the canvas in sections, blending the paint a bit. Then I cut up some tan colored scrapbook paper into random sized rectangles and squares and laid them in an abstract weave design, glueing them to the canvas.

And once the glue was dry, I painted over the scrapbook paper. I was going for a subtle tone on tone, textured abstract collage look, and I’m really happy with how this piece came together! I love that it looks like ordered chaos. The messy weave of the paper gives it movement and dimension. Do I sound art-y? 😉
So with this large statement piece done, all I have left to do in terms of DIY projects is to build a frame for this piece. And then I just need to style the space and photograph! I’m so ready to call this project a wrap!
Be sure to check out all the other participants Week 7 progress. And if you’re just now tuning in, here’s where you can get caught up with this guest bedroom/office project:
I’m not usually a “modern art” lover, but I really like this! Colors, texture and a very creative diy! It will be great in this space!
