Thank you all for the love on my One Room Challenge office/guest bedroom reveal! Today I’m sharing all the DIY details on how I built this frame for my abstract art canvas.

This was a super easy DIY project that was very kind to my budget and gave me the clean, modern look I was going for in here!
The DIY Details
I used 1 x 2’s.

Rather than using a tape measure, I used my canvas to mark where I wanted to make my cuts.

I set my saw to cut at a 45 degree angle. But even if you don’t have a power saw, you could easily miter the corners with a simple hand saw and miter box.
Then I used wood glue and a nail gun to assemble.

Then I used some 1 x 4 scrap wood to add braces to all four corners. I layed the frame on top and marked the boards where they needed to be cut, and again I used wood glue and a nail gun to attach.

Then I filled the nail holes with wood filler and stained the frame using just a clear coat to enhance the natural color of the wood. Once it was dry, I attached the canvas to the corner supports with a hammer a nails. And called this easy framing project done!

I attached a large saw tooth hanger to the back of the frame to hang on the wall.

The simple DIY frame cost around $20 and took me less than an hour to build! It’s a great bang for your buck project when you’re looking to frame a really large canvas!

Maybe you already posted this but where did you get your canvas that you made the frame for? Any future projects on how to make your own large canvas painting ???
