When my girl said she wanted me to give her chest of drawers an ombre makeover, I really wasn’t feeling the idea. It’s just that it’s been so played out on Pinterest that it just didn’t seem like the freshest way to makeover this piece of furniture. But my 13 year old truly has a vision for her bedroom, and I really want to foster her creativity. SO, an ombre furniture makeover was what this piece received. And I’m actually really in love with the end result! These ombre drawers are just so, so fun!

My girl wanted ombre drawers, but she didn’t have a specific color in mind. I thought going with a tone on tone look would give this corner a touch of sophistication and feel a little more modern. So I started by painting the base of this chest the same color as the walls, Sherwin Williams Garden Lake.

Then starting with the bottom drawer I added a little bit of white paint (Sherwin Williams Charleston White, the same color as our trim) to the blue paint. I didn’t use any specific measure of white paint, just added a little more white as I went. So each drawer would be slightly lighter than the next.

The DIY Details
I used this angled brush (my favorite for painting trim and details) and a foam roller, but the real MVP of this furniture makeover is ………….

is this incredible paint from Sherwin Williams that I had never used before. I am now fully obsessed and will probably not ever use anything else for painting furniture again. This Urethane Trim Enamel is self leveling which does give it a little longer drying time, but it also yields a super smooth finish!

The finish is so smooth, it almost looks like it was sprayed!
And honorable mentions go to these two products from Velvet Finishes – Ready & Protect. I used Velvet Finishes 3 step process when I painted the four poster bed in our master bedroom, and I was really impressed with the way the Ready cleaner prepped that piece for painting.
- Ready prepares furniture to be painted without the need for sanding. This spray on cleaner removes dirt and grime plus deglosses. It also eliminates the need for a primer!
- Protect is a satin polyacrylic that I probably didn’t really need to apply because the paint itself is pretty tough and durable. But because this in my girl’s room where it’ll see lots of use, I decided to go ahead and add one coat of Protect as a topcoat.

The crowning jewel of this furniture makeover is the new hardware! It took a little while to arrive, but it is so feminine and pretty!

The mix of the more traditional hardware with the ombre painted drawers made this piece feel really special. While the ombre paint job may be more trendy than timeless, it’s all kinds of whimsical, especially paired with this Cinderella-esque hardware.

I somehow forgot to snap a full before photo! What kind of blogger am I?! Ha! But here’s a quick sneak of the before.

And now the after. I really love how it turned out, but more importantly my girl is over the moon with her “new” chest of drawers.
Her room is coming along so nicely, and working on her space has been such welcome distraction. Next up we’ll be working on a gallery wall and sourcing an area rug!

Worth Appreciating. Great work.
