I recently made a small change to our en suite hallway. I painted the white ceiling medallions black.

You wouldn’t think such a small change could have such a big impact, but painting the ceiling medallions black really allows these fluted marble light fixtures to shine.

I wish I’d painted them black when I installed these flush mounts. But after installing the molding in this hallway and painting the ceiling black, I was just ready to be done with this hallway makeover. Plus with all of the trim work being white (Charleston White), I thought leaving the medallions white was maybe the right call.
But now that I’ve painted the medallions black, I wish I had done this right from the start! The fluted detail just looks so stunning against the black! You can really appreciate the unique design of these marble flush mounts now!

I used Sherwin Williams Urethane Trim Enamel in semi-gloss in the color Hitching Post Black from the Historic Duron Collection, which is the same color as the ceiling. And I’m loving the subtle contrast between the semi-gloss on the medallions and the flat finish of the ceiling.

I’m so happy with this small change! The power of paint never fails to amaze me!

What a great idea to use semi-gloss finish on the medallions. Thoughtful details like that make all the difference and i love how your whole hallway turned out. I have two of the same fluted marble light fixtures in my entryway area and love them. Do you happen to remember what type of light bulbs you used in yours? Mine are currently fairly dim, which i don’t mind – I don’t need them to be particularly bright. But i wouldn’t mind having them a tiny bit brighter.
