Last spring my dad helped me build a raised garden box , and I really enjoyed growing my own herbs and veggies. It was my first time growing a vegetable garden, and I was pretty surprised at how simple it was. I have a tendency to kill anything green, but by some miracle I managed to keep my garden alive and thriving until winter came.
With warmer temps pretty much here to stay, I decided it was time to clean things up and replant. I’m trying a few new things this year – like zucchini, cucumber and spinach. I was pretty shocked that the oregano and mint came back after the winter and is already in full force! My hub made a pitcher of mint juleps on derby day using mint from our garden, and I swear they were the best mint juleps I’ve ever tasted!
I found these wooden garden markers at Michael’s – in the dollar spot.
I sprayed the part that would be above the ground with white outdoor paint and then used a sharpie to label.
I’m excited to watch this little garden grow.
Have you tried growing your own vegetables? Raised box gardens are pretty easy to maintain. I mean, c’mon, if I can do it – anyone can!
Our plants and flowers party is tomorrow! Have you started planting and sprucing up your outdoor spaces? Come show them off at our party tomorrow!

looks awesome! we actually had a freeze last night- 31 degrees! so we haven't planted our veggies yet., but we built a raised bed this year and are excited to get rolling. we have some herbs by the porch, too, and oregano, thyme, rosemary, and parsley all came back- the oregano and thyme especially! mint is actually a ground cover, so it will take over if you let it, which can be good or bad! 🙂 it frames the garden well as it supposedly keeps deer out.
