little herb garden box

So you may remember that the new deck stairs created a problem for our old fire pit area.

Last week I showed you how my dad helped me to solve that problem by moving the fire pit to another area of the back yard.

But that left me with a weird looking blank spot in the area where the stairs wrap around, so I asked my dad to help with yet another little project.  I had him build me another garden box, similar to the one he built last year, but this time he added a little bench on the front.

This new garden box is perfect for this area; and I love that I now have a dedicated box for herbs and separate one just for veggies.

The addition of the board across the top in front created a little knee bench, perfect for working in the garden.  My dad always thinks of the most genius little details!

My dad had this garden box built in no time at all, and once again my diy contribution only involved a paint brush.  I’m so hard core.

I used the same paint color as the potting bench , which is also the color of the shutters on the front of the house.  I only painted the outside of the box, and then used a small brush for the hand painted sign.  I spruced up a few old terra cotta pots while I had the paint out – because why not?

I hand painted numbers on these old concrete pavers – just for fun.

And while the paint was drying I drank a few bottles of wine and recycled the corks………kidding…….kind of.

Do you grow your own herbs?  I just started doing it a couple of years ago and was pretty surprised at how easy it is.  Most of my herbs are perennials that just keep coming back bigger and better!  Who knew it could be so simple?!

  • I grow herbs too but spread them throughout my flower beds 😉 because I don't have room for a planter or box like yours.
You have the perfect spot and it looks great!

  • Love this Carmel. We have a rather large herb garden. I love the idea of using the corks for plant markers. Love the painted concrete pavers as well. When the girls were younger we painted quite a few and used them throughout our old garden.

  • Looks great! In my last house we recycled some bricks from a small pond (similar to your firepit ones) ones to make a herb garden. In this new house I have one lonely pot for my herbs.

  • Ha ha…I have a drawer full (or two) of wine corks and now I can finally put them to use. Your dad is genius (does he have a blog too?) 😉 As always, you prettied this space up just perfectly.

  • I have a black thumb, but anyone who can grow herbs deserves kudos from me! love the garden and the numbered pavers are really cute and original. I can see kids loving those.
