outdoor dreaming

March in Kentucky is kind of a crazy weather month.  There’s no telling what you’re going to get.  Case in point; Tuesday was in the 70’s.  I had on shorts, went on a nice run in my neighborhood and got my car washed!  Wednesday the temperature dropped.  It rained in the morning……..and then snowed!!!  Yeah, sun- wind – rain- snow in about a 24 hour time period.  You gotta love it…….or something.
Anyhow, Tuesday’s amazing 70 degrees had me dreaming of outdoor projects.  I can’t wait to pack on the sunscreen, throw on a hat and get my hands dirty.  HA!  Who’s with me?!
I’m planning to get my garden started early this year.   I may even expand or add another raised bed next to my current bed.

I already moved the herbs to their own separate area last fall, so I’ll have more room for veggies this year even if I don’t add another bed.

I’m still pretty new to growing my own herbs and vegetables, but for the past two years I’ve loved having fresh home grown produce.  I’m really excited to try some new stuff and to possibly plant more.  Do you grow your own veggies?  What do you like to grow?

I am also definitely planning to use this little planting trick once again for my window boxes and hanging baskets.

It keeps my plants from drying out since I’m the queen of forgetting to water.

The kids are obviously excited to get back to playing outside on their swing set/clubhouse that their grandpa built for them last year.

And we’re all looking forward to putting together our 2014 summer list.  It’s become a tradition that we look forward to each year.

So, let’s all hope the weather turns warm for good sooner rather than later!  I’m ready to get back outside.  What about you?  Any outdoor projects on your agenda?

  • The weather in Chicago has been totally wonkus, too. It was 53 on Monday, it snowed Tuesday night, and it's going to be in the 50s again tomorrow. What?!

The main outdoor project on my radar right now is spray painting the rest of our picture frames. I only got them done for one room, haha. In a month or two I'd like to build our new coffee table!

  • I've already started planning our summer as well! As for the queen of forgetting to water, I thought that was me! What's your take on weeding? I hate it! We'll be planting our potatoes and onions this weekend. I'm so ready to get my hands dirty. We usually plant tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, onions, peppers, corn, and carrots. We have a nice raised garden for our herbs and have strawberries & asparagus that come back every year. We even planted a blackberry bush last year. I'm so ready for fresh produce! Good luck with your planting.

  • I am so ready to get back in our garden. I love grilling out and using our fresh herbs in our meals. I hope to add more perennials this year and maybe a cutting garden.

  • I would love to have your garden, oh it is just beautiful! I love the sponge tip, I am going to go hunt down some sponges at the dollar store next time I am in there!
