less thumb to thumb, more face to face

………..”less thumb to thumb, more face to face”………..

It’s something my pastor said a few weeks ago at church, and it really stuck with me.
Then Emily wrote this post, and I immediately called my girlfriend that I haven’t seen since this past fall, who literally lives down the street, and invited her over for coffee this morning.
My house isn’t perfectly clean and the good Lord knows I’m in the middle of two house projects that have things looking a little displaced.  I’m hoping she’ll be too distracted by my coffee station to notice the chaos all around.
I’ll probably be wearing work out clothes with little to no makeup on, with my hair in some kind of pony tail messy bun look.  But who cares?  She certainly won’t.  It’ll be so good to see her face and hug her around the neck.  We text, we talk on the phone, but we don’t physically see each other often enough.  And how sad, especially since as I mentioned already, she lives right down the street……like just a few houses down!
I think I’m going to make this “less thumb to thumb, more face to face” my motto for the year.
less thumb to thumb, more face to face
Yes, I know it’s already March, but it’s never too late to be resolute about something right?  I want to spend more actual face time with the people that mean the world to me.  Over the past couple of weeks I’ve realized just how short life really is and how important relationships are to my well being.
Happiest of Wednesdays friends,

  • i love this! i have been trying to do a better job this year of seeing my friends… i think i am succeeding! this day and age is a challenge! i want to go back and live before cell phones and before TV even.

  • Love this! Such a great phrase to remind us that nothing can replace time spent with someone else face to face. I have been trying to be better about this and it's so hard when your phone is constantly dinging and updating. Have a fun morning 🙂 xo Kristin

  • Thanks for the link 🙂 I hope you have a great time with your friend. Wish I was doing the same instead of sitting on the computer this yucky rainy morning!

  • I agree! So far this year, I have been on one "date" with my girlies and have another one planned for tomorrow. It feels good to get out of the house and have some friend time. My bestie lives right down the street too and I never see her. What is up with that?

  • I''m so ditracted by your coffee station, I wouldn't notice, if the house was on fire. And I'm not even a coffee person.
I need to call some old friends now. Haven't been face to face with them in a long time. Thanks for this post.
Have lots of fun with your friend.

  • Thanks for sharing…. It's so easy to fall into the rut of texting rather than really reaching out and connecting….. I def need to work on this….

  • Love this! While technology has made it easier to keep in contact with friends and loved ones, it is so easy to forget to schedule those face to face meetings that mean a whole lot more.

  • Ha ha – it's coconut sugar. The brand we use is called coconut crystals. I have to write crystals on the jar or my hub gets confused between it and the raw sugar which I only keep on hand for guests. We don't eat refined sugar but I can't drink coffee plain so I use coconut sugar to sweeten it a little.
