What’s On My Mind This Friday

1.  Thank you all so much for your sweet and thoughtful comments on yesterday’s post.  I appreciated so much the stories you shared.  Your words were so uplifting – thank you!

2.  Ballard Designs asked me to help them celebrate their 30th birthday!

You know how much I love me some Ballard!  Read all about their 30th birthday celebration here.

3.  I’ve been trying to start drinking more vegetable/fruit juices – specifically green juices, but I can’t seem to persuade my taste buds.

Most of them taste pretty disgusting to me!  I don’t know if it’s a mental thing or not, but I do have a hard time with the color.  A number of peeps on instagram mentioned that home made green juice tastes better than store bought, but I’m not sure I want to invest in a juicer.  So what do you think?  Do you drink green juice?  Do you have a particular brand you like or do you make yours at home?  Should I just go ahead and get a juicer?  If so, which brand?  I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!  Obviously, I’m way over thinking it.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

4.  Last week I told you all that my hub surprised me with a girls trip to The Breakers.  I think you all got the wrong idea.  He did surprise me as in I had no idea I was going until 2 days before.  He used skymiles to get me a plane ticket to fly down to meet my girlfriend who was going to be there for a work meeting.  She actually works for one of the owners of The Breakers.  She really only had one meeting during the 3 days that we were there, so mostly we just played and relaxed.  I just wanted to clarify that my hub, while completely awesome and thoughtful, didn’t pay for such an elaborate excursion.  I don’t want y’all thinking we’re high rollers or something.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now that we got that out of the way, check out where I slept kid and husband free for 3 nights!

It was glorious!  And the view from our room wasn’t too bad either.

Sometimes it’s nice to just be a girl again.  No laundry to do or homework to help with or dinner to cook, just time to relax.  It was a great time, but I was really glad to see my favorite peeps again.

I’m looking forward to a project filled weekend at home!  What are you up to this weekend?

  • If you use a juicer, then you don't get the much-needed fiber. We drink our own homemade smoothies every day, but we puree everything to drinking consistency in the blender. We had a juicer once. It was too big to store easily and a bear to clean. When we learned about the fiber thing, we donated it to Goodwill.

  • We have a blender/juicer in one. I wanted it so bad…not anymore. It leaks. My weekend plans consist of going through the boys' bedroom. It's time to do some Fall cleaning. Going through their toys and clothes for donation. It all has to be done if we are going to remodel their bedroom before Christmas. As always, I love your blog! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hey Carmel, I don't think you totally need to buy a juicer. If you have a food processor or blender, you can puree stuff up pretty finely and mix it with juices and you'll have a lovely green drink. It may be a little thicker than a juicer's juice, depending on how much other juice you put into it, but if it's a good-for-your juice, no biggie! I like adding spinach, zucchini and kale to just about any kind of smoothie I make. It doesn't always turn it pure green, but it adds all the health benefits of those veggies. Plus, those don't have a lot of flavor to mess with the other stuff. You can probably get by with just your blender even.

  • OMG!!! SO much good stuff here ๐Ÿ™‚ I LOVE Ballard and the Breakers! That was my dream wedding venue! But on to more important topics – I bought the VitaMix blender and make green smoothies for myself and kiddos almost every day. Best investment ever. I throw in some greek yogurt for the kids along with kale, spinach, almond milk, kefir, bananas, and blueberries. Never made a bad one and the kids ask for one almost every morning and love to help make it.

  • I do green smoothies (in my blender) most mornings for breakfast. It started with a 30-day green smoothie challenge online and now I'm hooked. I just throw in whatever I have on hand. Most of mine are mostly fruit with a couple handfuls of spinach thrown in. When fruit starts to get bad around here I throw it in the freezer to use later. At first I'd put them into a big travel mug with a lid so I couldn't see the color. Now I don't mind at all.

  • I don't much care for the store bought smoothies either. Like Nancy, I started with the 30 day green smoothie challenge and became hooked too. I prefer the ones with kale or spinach, a banana and mango or peaches. I also like to use almond or coconut milk. If you don't like the taste of your smoothie, adding a little more fruit generally helps. Also, I don't own a juicer and they are all made in a blender. Drinking them freshly made and cold is a must for best flavor. Hope this helps.
