powder room update – lighting options

You might remember that I started a little powder room makeover a couple of months ago.  I’m like, the slowest diy blogger on the face of the internet, so obviously this makeover is still in progress.

I rarely start a makeover with a full-on plan.  I usually just start with an inspiration piece, and then I let things evolve as I go.   In the case of this little bathroom I started with an inspiration image.  I’ve been majorly crushing on red and pink color combos for a while now, and since I’ve never been one to shy away from bold colors I decided this small half bath was the perfect place to play with a fun color palette.  I painted the walls a light pink (Charming Pink – Sherwin Williams) and the ceiling the same shade of red as the living room (Porter – Apple Red).  Here’s a little peek.  Keep in mind the trim work still needs a fresh coat of paint.

When I removed the wallpaper I was pleasantly surprised to find that there’s wiring for a sconce to hang over the mirror.  I’m still unsure why the previous owners would wallpaper over it, and I’m hoping there are no issues with the wiring.

Anyhow, I’m having a little trouble deciding on a direction to go with the lighting.  The faucet is chrome and the mirror over the pedestal sink is a round shape.  Sooo……the question is…………

Do I continue with the glamourous girly look and bring in this mini crystal pendant with this 3-light vanity light

Or do I try to balance the glamour of the pendant with this more industrial kind of vintage looking 2 light fixture?

Or should I go more boutique hotel with this 2 light fixture or

maybe a vintage french industrial style would be fun?

Or do I go soft and pretty with this capiz pendant and  2 light vanity sconce combination.

Or do I dare to mix in some gold with this gorgeous hanging lotus pendant and this classic style sconce?

Or is there some other lighting options you think I should consider?  I’m clearly having decision issues. Lighting makes such a huge impact, especially in a small space.  This is also where the majority of the makeover budget will be spent so I want to choose something I’ll love for a good long time.  What are your thoughts?  What option would you choose?

This mini-makeover has been dragging on for far too long, but I hate to make a rash decision.  Help a sister out!!   😉

  • I think #6 is my first choice and #5 is my second. I am not a fan of the other pendant light. But I am sure whatever you put in there will look fantastic!

  • #2 or #3. One of your decorating strengths is balance, and I think all the gold paired with the rich red tones would throw the entire space off-balance. The silver options would tone it down a bit, I think.

  • I love #6, although I can't tell if the brass would work with the paint colors. #3 is my second choice. I also love the capiz pendant, but maybe with different sconces? FYI, all the Cost Plus pendants are on sale now. 🙂

  • I like the bold and gold or the hotel boutique. They both look classy and expensive which is the look I go for especially in my half bath as it is the bathroom everyone who comes over uses.
