a few of my favorite things

Today I’m excited to be participating in Melissa’s Favorite Things Series!   If you’ve never followed this series before, it’s basically like Oprah’s favorite things but blogger style.  I’ve followed this series for years.  It’s so fun to find out what makes someones favorites list!

Favorite Things - 2014
My list of favorites is comprised of new things I discovered and fell in love with this year!  These are my top ten!
#1 – Acure Argan Oil
I read lots of rave reviews for Josie Maran’s Argan Oil but the almost $50 price tag kept me from trying it myself.  Then one day while grocery shopping at Whole Foods I ran across another brand of argan oil at an easier-on-the-wallet price and decided to give it go.

My skin has never been so happy!  They say this oil is referred to as “liquid gold” and I can definitely understand why.  I use it morning and night as my moisturizer and absolutely love it!
#2 – Justin’s Vanilla Almond Butter
Our Fifth House - 2014 Favorite Things - #2 Justin's Vanilla Almond Butter
So I kind of hate to tell you about this stuff because it’s not cheap at about $12 a jar…..for almond butter!   BUT, all I know is once you go Justin’s you never go back!  SERIOUSLY!  It’s the best almond butter I’ve ever had…..like ever…..and since going paleo a few years back I’ve tried a ton of different brands of almond butter.   This vanilla almond is my all time favorite!
My kids on the other hand prefer their chocolate hazelnut butter which is admittedly pretty darn good as well!

#3 – The Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack
Our Fifth House - 2014 Favorites List - #3 The Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack
No, I’m not kidding.  Did you see this movie?  I was a little reluctant to see it because I’m not usually the super hero movie type, but I actually really loved this movie!  I think it has a lot to do with the amazing soundtrack.  I mean, Blue Swede, David Bowie, Redbone, The Runaways, Marvin Gaye and the Jackson 5 on one soundtrack……….plus more?!  Seriously, it’s good y’all; check it out!
#4 – Monogrammed Chucks
Our Fifth House - 2014 Favorites - #4 Monogrammed Converse
Converse with a monogram!  How did I not discover these sooner?!  Without a doubt these are my favorite purchase of the whole year!
#5 – Meals Made Simple
Our Fifth House - 2014 Favorites - #5 Meals Made Simple
Last year I bought Danielle Walker’s Against All Grain Cookbook and loved it so much I bought a copy for my sister-in-law for Christmas.  I couldn’t wait to get my hands on her second book!  Meals Made Simple is filled with so many great recipes and really does make paleo meal making simpler.  The book includes 8 weeks of meal plans, so if you’re just getting started on a paleo lifestyle this book would be a great one for you!
#6 – Toms for Target
I’ve loved just about every Target collaboration that has come out this year, but I’m especially fond of the new Toms for Target campaign.
This collection is for a great cause, and there are so many great items to choose from.   I LOVE this shirt…………

#7 – Young Living’s Thieves Essential Oil
Our Fifth House - 2014 Favorites - #7 Young Living's Thieves Essential Oil
Curiosity finally got me this year, and I jumped on the essential oils bandwagon.  No one’s more surprised than I am at just how much I LOVE them!  Thieves is definitely my favorite!  I love everything in the Thieves line from the hand sanitizer to the toothpaste.  And I’ve finally kicked all the chemical cleaners out of my home for good and welcomed Thieves household cleaner!  If the curiosity is getting to you feel free to use my member number (2062378) to sign up with Young Living.  I promise you won’t regret it!
#8 – Camo for Kids
Camouflage has been around for awhile now, but this year I noticed a lot more camo items for kids that were just too darn cute!

My daughter loves her some camo!
I heart those pants so much……wish they came in my size!
#9 – Gluten Free Miracles

Our Fifth House - 2014 Favorites - Gluten Free Miracles Bakery
I couldn’t compile a list of favorites without giving some local love.  Gluten Free Miracles is the cutest little bakery here in Lexington that opened for business back in the spring of this year.  Everything they make is gluten free, and they also offer many vegan and paleo items as well.  They also serve lunch and make the most delicious pizza!  My family loves this place!  Their paleo bread is the best I’ve ever had!
#10 – Colored Laces
Our Fifth House - 2014 Favorites - #10 Colored Laces
This might be a weird thing to add to my list, but for whatever crazy reason this year I’ve really, really loved the look of colored laces.  It’s just a fun little detail that I totally dig.  It’s been a fashion fave of  mine for sure this year.
What’s on your favorites list this year?  Tomorrow Jenna Sue will be sharing hers, be sure to check it out!

  • Argan Oil, Meals Made Simple and Essential Oils (although I use doTerra) all make my list of faves for the year! Any tips for transitioning homemade cleaners and products? I'm in the process!

  • Okay lady with the beautiful skin, I'll do as you say and get some Argan Oil! I just got my first shipment of YL essential oils and can't wait to dive into them. • I walked out of that movie and said we need that soundtrack and I forgot! I am ordering it, loved all of the songs. I need to try Justins' and yay for Toms at Target 🙂 Wonderful list, thanks again Carmel ~

  • I am shocked to read that you use Argan Oil on your face! I use it on my hair and love it! I am wondering, do you use it on your face right before you apply makeup? Or do you wait? I am going to have to try it on my face and see what I think.

  • In the morning I use one or two drops – a little goes a long way and then I go make my bed or blow dry my hair, make a cup of coffee, you get the idea. I let it absorb in before applying my makeup. Give it a try – you'll love it!

  • Love the Chuck Taylors! My great grandfather's brothers founded the company! I love following your blog and always look forward to new posts!
