Last week while I was staying at my mom’s house in Southern California I shared a few snapshots of her gorgeous home on Instagram and Snapchat (ourfifthhouse) and many of you asked to see more. I left my good camera at home, but I did snap a few more photos of mom’s beautiful eclectic home with my phone to share with you all. (please excuse the mediocre quality of these phone snapshots) From a very young age my mom has always encouraged me to rock my own individual style, and you can see from her home that she leads by example.  Her home is not only beautiful and inviting but it exudes her personality and is filled with the things she’s lovingly collected over time. Her design aesthetic has evolved over the years yet her home has always conveyed her distinct signature style. She mixes old with new, vintage with modern, and doesn’t shy away from color or pattern!
The exterior of mom’s house is just as beautiful as the interior. Unfortunately I didn’t inherit her green thumb.
Mom’s home has so much character from the floors to the gorgeous ceilings.
She remodeled her galley style kitchen years ago while keeping the charm and character of her older home. I love the concrete countertops, farmhouse sink, beadboard, open shelving……..and this stove is the crowing jewel.
Original cabinetry was painted and she brought in a vintage piece to use as a working island.
The living room is such a colorful mix of pattern and texture. Mom put me to work while I was visiting and asked me to paint the bottom of her marble topped coffee table. The turquoise color she selected is such a fun punch of color in here, and I love the contrast against the cowhide rug.
The ceiling in mom’s living room gives new meaning to “the 5th wall”. It is just breathtaking.
If you follow me on Snapchat you got to see a little video tour while light danced off the disco balls in the dining room. This room is just so magical during the day. I love that this dining room has the same inviting feel of a living room. It’s a room where you want to linger after dinner.
My mom’s an artist. She’s been painting since I was a little kid. Her home is filled with her art as well as pieces that she’s collected over the years.
White paneled walls are a great canvas for her collection of paintings.
One of the things I love most about mom’s house is that every piece of furniture is intentional. She has beautiful pieces that she’s collected over the years. The combination of this oriental dresser against the green beadboard walls in the master bedroom is just stunning.
According to my daughter Josie, mom’s namesake, the coolest part of grandma’s home is her art studio. Mom converted a shed she had built into a beautiful studio where she can unleash her creatitvity.
The art studio is so much more beautiful in person!
It’s always so hard, even after all these years of living out of state, to say goodbye. While this isn’t the house I grew up in, it’s filled to the brim with love and staying at mom’s house always feels like a homecoming for me. I think that feeling is less about the house, albeit the beauty of it does add to the ambiance, but there’s just something special about being under your mama’s roof again. Her essence completely fills this house with so much comfort and joy!
I hope you all enjoyed this little tour of my sweet mom’s house. Next time I’ll bring my good camera and capture a few more spaces.
What a beautiful home! thank you for sharing it. I love following your blog and always enjoy your posts, whether they be home decor or book reviews – love them all!
